Default Foam cutter - Duratrax ICE, Solomon SL-30?

Hi everybody,

I have seen the foamcutter build by Jim Young in his video presentation and it is realy cool and looks EASY to build.

I have several questions regarding the powersupply for this kind of foamcutter :

1. can I use an NiCd/NiMH pack instead of power supply? I yes what number of cells?
2. I have Duratrax ICE charger - can I use this charger as a powersupply? The charger has an function called DC motor burin-in. Can I use this function to power on the hot-wire?
3. Can I use an ATX PowerSupply for powering hotwire?
4. Can I use Sodlering iron ( Solomon Sl-30 ) with digitaly contorlled temperature ?

I do not want to buy another powersupply just for Foamcutter if any of mentioned posibilities are working. I have seen a thread about using NiMh Pack as a power supply but can't find it.

Thank you for any suggestion.

I would not use anything but a regular car battery charger or a ATX power supply if you have but would not use any other thing you mentioned.

Forgot to say that using batteries it could heat up and blow up. this is why other thing you mentioned has some of those traits,

I also heard that you can use a car battery but if it is not controled it can cause serious burns.

I don't think so! 600watts dimmer and what ever battery amp. I think it would blow the dimmer. some use a piano wire the "smallest size" and a door bell transformer (cheap) to buy There are links to foam power supply If I come across them I will post the links.
