First design... need help, using AutoCAD R14 AEC
Hello guys! I am going to be designing my first ever airplane for fun.... I have many questions and need all the advice i can get!
I have 2 years of autocad experience so i am no newbie to the program, ive taken architecture design/ engineering graphics classes at school
What i would like to know is if there are any downloadable FREE plans that are compatible with AutoCAD R14 (1997 version) it has to be a .dwg file or else it is not going to work, (at least i dont think so)... can anyone help me find some stuff??
also, where can i find a place to get engines, servos, control horns, battery pack stuff from CAD? again, i would prefer .dwg file type
heres the plane im thinking of making....
its going to be a 40/60 size sport funfly, possible funfly plane

I have already done a substantial number of plans using Autocad for close to ten years now. The situation being is that you probably want late model, or curently available model blocks. Most of the blocks and other small stuff sent to you or found on the internet seems to be a good ten years old now. You can get a host of Cox engines, MRC servos, etc. but no new stuff. All that has to be done via your hand to really look good. I have found several instances where the manufacturers have sent me their CAD files on glow engines, only to find they are old, or do not match the currently available models. Manufacturers do not seem to be interested in what they sell being installed into some new design, or by a new student.
It's best to just measure what you have, and add that to your model directories for the next one also. It is tedious, but the safest approach.
DICKYBIRD has an impressive list, but a few are repeats of old addresses, and the Japanese one will give you a virus. Try also going to the Tower Hobbies site, as there are some free places noted there too.

Click File, Open, then under "Files of Type" at the bottom of the open file dialogue box, hit the little down arrow and choose "DXF"(*.dxf). Then find the file and click "Open"

CoosBay,
Which site will give you a virus?
I just looked through all of them and then read your note.
Dickybird, maybe you want to remove that one from your list.

DICKYBIRD;
Do not remember the exact site name, as I am sort of gun-shy of your list now. It has a substantial number of designs, and was of Japanese language format. They were all tabulated, and was very slow to load.
I run an anit-virus, but seems it got around the S/W somehow.

I looked at them all and didn't get a virus. I did see one that wanted to install some software (gator) but Explorer asked first and I said no. This is not unusual for the "free" web hosting sites that popup adds etc. The gator software is spyware not a virus. Spyware tracks your internet browsing to better know how to advertise. It also redirects some links to other webpages. It's not something you want.

I watched the little in and out monitor. Then the anti-virus kicked in and mentioned I was receiving some sort of numbered virus, and after down load.....etc. I stopped right away, but it then screwed up my History, cookies and Outlook Express, to which it took about 90 minutes to reconfigure.
