Sizing an electric motor
I have a need for a brushless motor in place of a typical 540 toy car motor (early electric conversion). How do I choose an appropriate size motor? I was looking at watts, but then it depends on the battery configuration as well. I am thinking I will be using 3S lipo packs since I have them already. WOuld this be typical of a speed 500 motor? My biggest problem is that I never actually saw any of these motors to even get a relative size comparison.
I unfortunatly never took to electricty (or rather it never took to me) when I should have been learning about it. [:'(] Now I wish I would have been more attentive, because I don't know anything anymore.

With a little bit more info we might be able to help. What does the plane weigh, prop size, what kind of performance are you expecting? Are you going to be running the motor in a car or a plane?
