Fairey Barracuda flaps
Hi you all
This question has been previously posted in the "aerodynamics" forum.
Could someone please explain how the Fairey-Youngman flaps of the british Fairey Barracuda were deployed when they acted as dive-brakes?. I can understand how they act as common Fairey flaps, although their position (longitudinal) was fixed, but I cannot figure how were they set as aerodynamic brakes. Flaps chord perpendicular to wing chord maybe?. I am designing a 1:10 "cuda" (nice beast, some 57"WS, electric). and I am interested in the possibility of implement real flaps functions (more servos! [:@]).
The only interesting information found on the web was this .pdf:
naca.central.cranfield.ac.uk/reports/arc/rm/2547.pdf
It only talks about take-off and landing positions of flaps later implemented in Fireflys, not Barracudas..., an interesting test anyway .
Thanks

RE: Fairey Barracuda flaps
The flaps were raised from the inflight position for dive brake usage - sort of the opposite of the landing/takeoff setting. How's the Cuda going? I'm in the early stages of starting a Cuda model also - looking at 84" span - retracts are going to be a real bear - doing research right now.
