Default Rebuilding fuselage

Hi All I'm in the process of repairing my fuselage on Sig Kobra..I need to repair the front end..This is what I'm going to do. (1) Cut back 1" from F2/ (2) Cut the front fuse from 1/8 sheet (3) Butt glue the cut part to the existing fuse..

Now what's better to use of overlap and strengthen both parts, 1/8 lite ply or fiberglass with expozy?

Thanks Dan

Dancin' Man Dan (I see your Cloud Dancer avatar).

I would skip the lite ply. I know it's used a lot, but it is not very strong. I would glue the nose back on with medium CA, then sand it smooth. Next, I would use 1/32" ply on the inside-I presunme this is the smaller Kobra and not the larger King Kobra. Then I would use fiberglass cloth and epoxy on the outside, then cover over it.

While you are doing it, change that awful tail into a Cloud Dancer fin & rudder. It'll look cool.

Pictures when you are done.

Hi Ed The Kobra is the smaller of the two..The tail remains the same..This happens to be one of the best flying planes I ever had..Flies even better then then Kougar with a GMS 47 in it..Maybe because the Kobra is Electric, the electric's seem to fly much more smoothly.

Dan
PS Are you going to use the pic of the Electric Cloud Dancer??

I had the same type of repair what I did was cut it back 2 inches
So the 2 sides are the same length then I cut the balsa off the outside
Of the ply back about 3 inches. Then I butt joined 2 new pieces of ply
On the front with epoxy then I sheeted the 2 ply sides with balsa the
Original thickness then on the inside I done the same with around 2 to 3 inches on each side of the join then put a 3/8 ply firewall in with reinforcements and put a race 61 mds
In instead of an Irvine 46 and it is well strong enough.

I'll have it in the January issue-3 months lead time, you know. Too bad you bashed the plane. You ought to be able to fix it up fine.

Hi All The Kobra fuselage has been repaired and flys just as good as before the crash.
