I plan to build pod & boom r/c - first plane
I am planning on building a pod & boom (learned term from Sierra Gold -thanx) r/c plane w/ a Troll-35 motor. The motor is (I think) much like a 400 electric. It draws 8.2 amps at 3 volts and produces 2.9 oz. of thrust at 9300 rpm on a 5.5" prop. The shape of the pod will be a balsa stick frame that looks like (side view, motor will be at left w/ angle for downthrust):

The wing is a polyhedral copy of the Guillow's Arrow (kit 702) blown up to 1.5 times its original size. The wing is now 53" long and has an area of 235 sq. inches. I plan on attaching the wing to the fuselage with rubber bands just like the Arrow does.
For the boom leading to the tail section, I plan on using a .5" x .25" balsa stick. I figure this will cut down on weight and also allow more room for the servo arms that will be coming out the back of the pod.
I am not wedded to this design (except for the wing and tail which have already been built). Any suggestions on the boom design (or anything else)? In particular - any ideas on how long the boom should be? Thanks!
