Default extra 300s (ryobi powerd)

hi all i decided to pick back up my design project. i am designing an extra 300s for sport flying only not 3D and i would like to power it with a ryobi 31. i may run it on glow gas to give me a bit more power and less weight. my question is would a 60" span plane be ok for this project or should i go bigger or maybe smaller? i probobly wont start building for a long time but it is fun to work on the design i will post pics once i get back home in a week. the plane will be built with an airfoiled tail and standard balsa and ply construction along with some fiberglass as well. this will be my first large scale design but i have been building for about 3 years and have lots of ameture cad experiance.

I would think you could go bigger. I used a ryobi 31 on an 82" bandito grande at about 14lbs. Flew very spirited. I would think around the 75" range would work.

ok that will make things a little bit easier. i think i will go with 70" then.

did you run your ryobi on the stock magneto? or did you convert it to IE. also what prop did you use? i like apc if it matteres.

Stock magneto. The prop was a 18x8 MA classic series. APC would work. I would suggest mounting the engine on a test stand to tune it. I had to go with about a 28:1 gas mix to keep it from over heating in a cowl.
