Scratch build: 2 Yak 54 full fuse foamy 41"/20.5" WS
Hi guys, dunno if im in the right section since they are electric foamies but anyways, im pretty new to planes.. i own a flatout flatana that ive flown for about 2 months past summer and thats about it. i wanted a bigger plane full fuse class 400, just like the GP Yak 54 EP, and started to build my own fall 2007
(well.. acutaly gonna get that GP yak 54 in 1 week anyways (birthday )
its my first scratch build, did i underestimate the job i was going to put in that project? lol oh geez.. if i had know
3 foam cutters and a "foam mill"? later (hey im not very good in english) i was on my way to build that plane
oh yea.. no plan too... first scratch build, no plans, no tools :P eveything was going good
anyways here some pics of the work i did in 2007.. then took a little break(just too cold to work in the garage)

here some pics i just took
the box inside the 41", this box took a long time to build :/
pic of the motor/firewall, still not sure if i will use that motor on the 41" though. look a little small for the plane
and the elevator i made this morning for the mini yak

That looks awesome I find it hard to believe this is your first ever build. And without plans as well. Very impressed what sort of colour sceem will you use I seen a great looking yak in rcme. Air brushed yellow fading into a rich bright orange.

You sir are truly an artist in the medium. Foam isn't my bag but I can recognize skill and vision when I see it. A nicely done and very well executed project so far.

well.. did a little mistake while doing the wings, forgot to count the fuselage is size, so i ended up with 2" too large 22.5" ws instead 20.5" .. now i dunno if i should leave the wings like that, cut them down to the right lenght or make a new set of wings!?! :/

RE: Scratch build: 2 Yak 54 full fuse foamy 41"/20.5" WS
that little yak build is getting more complex than i though(didnt plan to install landing gears)
ive been able to mod/fit the flatouts landing gears on the plane,
the landing gears for the flatouts was way too small for the planes size, but its perfect for that micro yak
and while the LG on the flatouts did feel very weak, on my little yak they feel very solid!
fuselage w/ landing gears & firewall, 20g :P

RE: Scratch build: 2 Yak 54 full fuse foamy 41"/20.5" WS
very sad... i lost the landing gears while doing the paint on the fuse.. :S look like ive used that cracked cf rod.. and the rod gave up
oh well... i will make another micro yak soon with some improvement and changement w/ good condition cf rods :/
the plane is almost rtf.. just need to finish the cowl
also changed the 2blades prop for a master airscrew 3blades series
current setup
mystery 20a ESC
RC smart 2350kv BL motor
master airscrew 3blades 5x3
2 futaba s3107 & 2 heli-max servos
Sunip Rx w/o case
2cell lipo's 600-900mah 41-43g
RTF w/o cowl : 206g
but ive a mystery 10a on the way.. and 4 servos 4.3g to replace the 8g one's
the plane want to hover in my hand with original prop.. so. i guess with the lighter ESC and servos and plane will be able to climb verticaly
if its not enough.. i found some 500mah lipo 3s that weight around 34g lighter than my 2cell packs with more voltage. should be all good
with all these changement the plane should be well under 200g w/ the cowl
