Anyone have Cad drawings of Servos ???
Does anyone happen to have a CAD drawing of a standard size servo they can send me? I can take pretty much any format.
I guess I can draw it myself if I have to, but I thought I might ask here first before I do...
BTW, it would be so nice to have some sort of central website where everyone could submit and download cad drawings of different r/c parts (props, servos, engines, tanks, etc).
I've used sdp-si.com and they have all of their parts (gears, bearings, etc) available for download in multiple cad formats. It saves so much time.
It would be cool to have this for R/C specific parts from different manufacturers.
Thanks alot guys,
Mike

Which servos in particular are you interested in? I have several Futaba, HiTec, and Sanwa ones. Post your address if interested.
The inventory of downloadable drawing files idea was brought up about a year ago. It went over like a lead balloon. Most folks whined that they only wanted files in Cheap-CAD, or Weird-CAD, as they were the only ones to which they were familiar with. Not any of the normal interchangeable formats.

yup, yup
I think I saw that discussion some time ago, I didn't pipe up 'cause i wasn't doing CAD at the time. Now I am. I wouldn't mind getting ahold of some of those servo files, dxf is fine.
Hitec 5945, 5245, 5125, Futaba std size, and any servo horns as well would be very cool.
Got any clevises, ball joints, etc?

You are the man
Hey Wm:
Major thanks to you for emailing me those files!!!! You are the man!!
There are tons of r/c parts in here....not just the servos....this is a small r/c cad parts library!
BTW, I've got a few r/c parts drawn to scale if you or anyone else needs them, including the OS91 engine, thunder raptor swashplate, etc.
Thanks again.

Count me in on files...
Could I also (BIG PLEASE) be included in the file sharing?
I'd like whatever files you have (Hitec products especially). My email is [email protected]
Thanks you in advance,

Maybe its time to revisit/reask about the possibility of a download area for basic cad symbols. DXF is the most popular standard if you can call it a standard since Autocad keeps changing it. Many of the cad programs can just import certain versions. Heck, Autocad even has problems.

hey bent,
i definitely think having a rc cad library is a great idea.
do you think rc universe would host the site? also, it would have to have a database behind the site and I don't know how big it would grow to over time.
it would think it would be something rcuniverse would want to host, don't you think?
I'd certainly upload the parts that I've drawn and if everyone just uploaded a few parts, it would grow into something really good.
perhaps even the manufacturer's would get into the game, which is after all, what we want in the end.
what do you think?

The Jo Jusko site used to have parts and components downloads available a few years back. However, the site is on the constant move and it was getting hit 2-4000 times per day. Much in excess of original thoughts, and thus it keeps on the move until there is a free service which can handle the volumne of time consuming downloads. I don't know if this site could handle the contributions and acessing.
I have a second harddrive on my main computer which I place all my parts, plans, and library files. It is an old 1.6G size, but after ten years now is about 75% full. I took out the old 250MB D drive about four years ago, when even getting rid of tempo files, old BAK, XLG and zip compressing everything made for a full drive. Amazing how many little drawing files can be handled and how it sneaks up on you.

How would we make the CAD files page a reality? contact a moderator? Possibly a sub page under this subject? It would be great thing to have. What would the web hosting cost a month for the repository of files and maybe some CAD help info?
Regards
Bill
Wm if you have time I would love to have the file you sent out in the thread above.

Yep
I was the guy that originally talked Marc into letting us have this area (for design & 3D) and I think it's really grown nicely.
...but the idea, brought up here several times, of creating a "CAD Library" did indeed fail. There are so few of us true mega-geeks.
DXF files can get pretty large, so I'm guessing that for a fairly complete library of parts like servos, etc., could easily grow to 50 megs or more, if people actually start making these items in different sizes and brands.
Personally, I don't do it that way. I use CAD for visualization, so my receivers and batteries are just the appropriate size "cubes" or "boxes". I do put output wheels on the servo boxes, but can't see the need to actually have gears inside, etc.. You can study, and even animate linkage functions without any real gears. Same goes for receivers and batteries. Isn't a "box" of the right size good enough for most plans?
I've attached an image that shows how I use this stuff. It's exterior size is correct, but there's nothing inside the servos, receiver, or battery.

Hmmm
SHenion,
I generally have no problem with 3D DXF files, and use them myself often. But, I couldn't get your servo DXF to open properly. I got a "unknown error" report.
Anybody else?

Better explanation...
No problem downloading or unzipping it. It just wouldn't open properly in my 3D program. ("Carrara Studio 2") I use DXF often, so this is unusual for me.

RC Parts
If you like, I will email you a DXF file of those parts, and a reasonable recreation of the Klett tailwheel assembly.
The mains and wheel pants were made by me, "custom" for this design, not from measurements of any other manufacturer's gear.

moderated?
I would think that a way to have a library here would be to have someone moderate it. FIrst, start with a file size chosen so that any decent and simple component drawing will fit - much like the size limit on postable graphics files. Then the moderator would be able to add bigger files after reviewing them
Anyway, I have 2D drawings of Hitec 5245/225 and 5125/125 cases - side view.

I can help with the shared library!!!
I don;t know why I never thought of it...
I'd be GLAD to add a CAD/Design related section to out RC website...
http://www.renderwurx.com/rc
I'll create a "CAD Vault" of various objects like servos, tailwheels, pants, gear, etc... maybe even have some plans themselves. Everyone will have access to them.
If you have any CAD related files, feel free to e-mail them to
[email protected]
Thanks, and I'll let ya know when the "Vaults" up...
