Yes, I love the board. One of these days, I am going to buy one building set of supports from Paul @ www.airfieldmodels.com. For now, I have managed to work with the original supports and extra magnets.

Ricassad,
Yes, thank you for the tip. However, I got the RCM plans and wood before the US60 was re-released by GP. At that time, I had another model on the building board.
I received the GP retracts this weekend and I bought the torque rods for flaps yesterday. So, my building will continue this week.

Regarding the split elevators. I feel setting the plane up with two servos for the elevators is so unnecessary. I have built two US 60's and used the wire joiner with no problems at all using the Harry Higley method. You drill the holes for the wire joiner over sized, fill them with epoxy, insert the wire joiner, and set the two ele. halves on a flat surface. I always used a little weight on top to keep them flat. The overszied holes means that they don't have to be precise, and the hardened epoxy will keep the wood from wearing against the wire. This plane does not need two ele. servos.

I have installed the RW retracts mounting and wheel well. I am proceeding to the LW this week.
Regarding split elevators, I have decided to go with a one servo and a carbon fiber D.E.P.S.
Edited for correcting typos.

I was able to continue working on the US60 this weekend. The LE is being roughly prepared for final sanding and shape using the LE template.

I have finished sanding one wing. LE has been sanded to finish. Wing tip is also finished. However, I am not sure how rounded I should made the wing tip. I am working on finishing sanding the other wing. More to follow this week.

Looks very good! I probably had my wing tips a little more
rounded than you have yours but not by much. Smooth contours
is the design philosophy of this plane.
When you are sanding the LE of the wing remember the contour
of the LE is different at the root than at the tip. Use the supplied
template off the plans and a long sanding bar.

Thanks for the input.
Yes, I am using the LE root and tip templates for shaping the LE. Those long GP sanding bars are appropriated for the task.

Wow...I've have been having fun sanding both wings while trying to keep my working are free of balsa dust.
I am now touching up leading and trailing edges to obtain good symmetry between wing halves. I am also matching and adjusting the wings at root ribs preparing for joining the wings.

Completing wheel wells and test fitting retracts. Retracts alignment looks about right. It will require a minor adjustment. I will do it when I install the servo for the retracts.

Hi ckangaroo70,
Thank you for your compliments.
Here is the update. I have completed the installation of torque rods for flaps. I will continue with flaps, ailerons, and servo trays for ailerons, flaps, and retracts.

For those following this thread, here is the update and pictures.
I took my time to think about the aileron servo trays. I made the decision to go with a design where the servo is almost flush with the airfoil.

RE: RCM Ultra Sport 60 mods
After almonst one full year, I am continuing this building. During this time, I have fixed the problems I had with my Giles 202 and its 0.90 engine that was giving me grief. Now that she is flying at its full potential, I have time to continue this new airplane.
So, I started the fuselage about two weeks ago. I am using laser cut part of a short kit that I purchase from lazerworks.
The original RCM US60 have an engine right/down thrust of 0/0. The GP version has 2/0. After much deliberation I decided to go with 2/0 because I am installing a TH-75 engine en I will not flying for speed but for pattern practice and maybe some competition.

Two more modifications from the original plans will be pull-pull rudder control and DEPS. I have an idea of where to mount the servo for the elevator and am working on the way I am going to mount it just above and shifted forward from the rudder servo but easily removable for being able to access the rudder servo. (Ideas welcome). Because I have dual aileron control, the only interference I might have is from the flap servo and controls. So, I have to consider that. If I cannot find a solution for having both in place, I will opt for not having flaps. Pull-pull wire outlets are done.

Today, I mounted the wing on the fuse to check clearances between servos for elevador, rudder, and flaps. My estimations tell me that I have enough space for doing all. So, I started working on the flaps and here is the development.

I completed the center sheeting of the wing bottom section and spent some time installing the retracts servo. Then mounted right retract and tested servo travel for a perfect fit. No binding end to end.

RE: RCM Ultra Sport 60 mods
Wow,
Glad to see the Ultra sport is still being built it is a super flying ship. I built two of these from the RCM plans when they first came out. One I gave to a friend of mine who did not like to build. I still have and fly mine after more than allmost 20 years.
Here's a pic of it with my Son in 1995 Austin Tx, ARCA field. Has a .61 MDS which hulls is fine.
Rather than find a cardboard tube, make your own sleve from 2oz fiberglass. Doing it this way will give you an incredably good fit.
