New skin on my Ruperts Dad
I got the bug to get back into this hobby about four years back after being away for 30+ years. I picked up a RC Model World Magazine at the hobbyshop in Campbell, Ca and it had a set of full size plans for the Ruperts Dad. I built one for my "trainer" One of the guys at the club did the maiden for me and then said it flew great, not take it home and hang it up and get a trainer. About two years later, I finally flew it. It was still way more than I could hande and I burnt a couple 4*60's and then dug the Ruperts back out. I got in a couple weeks flying then a glitch, which turned out to be the battery, resulted in a water landing. I had to rebuild the wing as the water blew out the LE sheeting on the bottom. It sat for another few months and then I finally got it back in the air. About flight #6 on it and the battery opened up and all control was lost. It did big slow turns for what seemed like 15 minutes until it flinally lost eneough elevation that a sage bursh took it out. Well another new wing, this one from scracth, all new hinges. and a little extra stuff like different landing gear and wheel pants. I'm still looking for a round engine cowl for it to finish it off, but it is back in flying condition again with a new covering job.
The first photo is it rolling out for it's first flight. The other two are as it stands today.
