Default Cowl

I am about to start my new project (1/4 scale Pitts Special) and have a question. Are there any tutorials on how to build a fiberglass cowl? I have built many scale models over my 40+ years in this hobby, but have not yet had to build a fiberglass cowl. I would always build them out of balsa, just like the rest of the model. Any suggestions/advice?

Thank you,

Tom

You should build a lighter than normal cowl. Then just put a correct layer FG cloth over it. Why people glass any long nosed plane is weird. They just create a COG problem. Short nosed planes MAYBE.

Build & finish this plane as usual. See how many ounces you can move around before your COG is.. no good. That weight is your... MAXIMUM... FG covering weight that can be tolerated.

Cowls get the MAXIMUM amount of engine vibration. Ever see cracks ? STAY with wood & paint.
I am a great one to give advice ? I only build in blue foam. [X(]

You can carve the cowl to the front of the plane, remove then try this.

http://www.cstsales.com/fiberglass_mold.html

Or you can try

They may have what you are lookin for already made.
