Slat / Wing Parting Question
Hi All,
I am currently trying to design a twin EDF aircraft, and have the following problem with there to split the wings from the fuse. The aircraft will be 2.59m wingspan - so quite a sizeable wing, and i would like to be able to remove the wings from the fuse, leaving the centre section with the inboard flap panel, and also the LDG etc.
My problem is that if i split the wing between Flap 1 and Flap 2 (as per the picuture), then this leaves about 11cm of slat unsupported inboard. I don't know if this will be a problem or not, having never dealt with operational slats.
Please help - comments or suggestions greatfully welcomed.

RE: Slat / Wing Parting Question
Operating slats would be very unusual, they are not usually fitted to models.
I aslo fly turbines as well as electrics & I don't think I have ever seen operating slats on any model jet.
If it were me I would not bother fitting them.
Check this youtube video out from the neffwaffe, if you haven't seen it you will love it.

RE: Slat / Wing Parting Question
Great Video - one of the DC9's has working reversers - cool.
I would like to add the slats, only for scale realism more than aerodynamic reasons.
If there is anyone out there who can help, please do!

RE: Slat / Wing Parting Question
One ting you have to remember is the slats are timed with the flaps. when the flaps reach a certain distance going down the slats will deploy. you have to keep an aerodynamic balance between the flaps and slats or the plane will become unstable. Is that a CRJ?

After watching this again, I realized how right you are in the saying the worst flying site ever. What a bunch of obstacles in a tight airspace. Makes me very grateful for my MILES of open air. Their flying is exceptional, scale landings on big flying tubes. Awesome.

RE: Slat / Wing Parting Question
Usually the slats come out first...at least that's the way it's been on most of the planes that i've flown. I believe it is a Global Express and with that huge wing, the only reason you would need slats is for cosmetic reasons. I would split the wing at the root. The wing root is huge on that plane and it would simplify things. Good luck on your progress and do send photos.

RE: Slat / Wing Parting Question
Hi All,
Thanks for the replies - yeah, i was tending away from splitting at the root, but you are right - it will simplify things. The MLG will have to split with the wings in that case. Back to google sketchup!
Yes - it is a Global - hope to build an XRS.
PPLjr - i see you are in Grapevine - working at the Bombardier school by any chance? I did my L45 school there a few years ago... Stayed at the Gaylord Texan - AWESOME is the only word for it. Breakfast in San Antonio styled cafe, and an all night coffee / snacks shop! It even had a little staples if you needed a pen or something!
Thanks for the help
