Default Rib drawing for aerobatics wanted

Hi,
I'm scratch building a 4 lb. aerobatic plane and would like a full size drawing of a good wing rib. I tried drawing one but I'm better at cutting and sanding than drawing! Looking for a 10" chord.

Thanks,

Bill

You could download a free version of Profili from www.profili2.com/ and print any size airfoil from a choice of hundreds. The one shown as 'Trainer60 ' looks like a Kaos shape except for the TE( surprisingly ) which could be what you want. Otherwise NACA 0018 might suit.

I have also e-mailed a jpeg file of the 10 inch NACA0018 and my Maverick design 10.5 inch template. I saved the file to disc and then opened and printed and it came out correct size on my printer.

Bill,

You can purchase wing kits from many vendors. Sig comes to mind on that 10" cord.

I purchase wing kits and adapt them to my scratch built models. Don't tell anyone.

I hate cutting wing ribs, only if I really have to.

Send me the dimensions of the wing planform, root and tip rib sizes, and any applicable sweep angle and I'll cook you up a wing. Takes 15 mins on Compufoil.

Hi:
My buddy and I are planning to scratch build a YAK 54, about 29% scale, and have no plans., but we do know about what size the wing ribs are to be. Frankly, we will make up our own dimensions based on one of the YAKs flown by a club member. We are pretty good at making do. We will be drawing the tip rib and the root rib, the spacing between the ribs, and the wingspan of each wing panel. Can we get the set of ribs drawn? We would like to send to Funaero RC to have them laser -cut.

Thanks,

Cajuncharley

Bill...

What you are looking into is better handing at the aerodynamics forum. They know aerobatics quite well there.

In my early 1960's designs, they tended to sepecify the NACA 65A12 to 65A19 airfoil often. You may want something more modern. But, overall not a quicky job.

NACA0018
I'll second that. The whole NACA 00xx series are outstanding performers with little in the way of bad characteristics.

Hi, Bill.

If you still need a 10” chord, I have scaled one Eppler 168 for you.

You can right-click on the attachment and select Save Target As.
Then, you can save it to your computer and print from there.

Set any printer as follows:
Page Scaling: None
Autorotate and Center: Unmark
Paper: 8.5 x 11.0

The chord should measure exactly 10 inches on paper; if not, send me a PM, please.

This symmetrical airfoil was created for model airplanes specifically, for which the Reynolds numbers are small compared to full scale wings.

Regards!
