Default Brian Taylor 1/8th Scale F4u Corsair

Hi I am new to scratch building but have built and repaired for many years. I was wondering why in the BT Plan for the corsiar the skin is Planks of 3/8 X 1/8 balsa rather than just using full sheets?

Thanks in Advance

Lots of compound curves can be very difficult to sheet. Also, you will often get sagging between formers when sheeting which can be avoided by planking. I usually sheet as much as possible and only plank where the compound curves make it impossible.

you can bend 1/8 balsa , it just takes a little time and water , i dont plank if i can help it. in the areas where there is a compound bend
as chad says you may have to , for instance the dauntless i'm doing i may have to aft of the rear canopy where the curves are a little severe. i've got the BT CORSAIR Plans . let me know how your doing. there are some excellent threads on RCSCALE BUILDER
