In the case of racing, the saying "just because it can be done, doesn't mean it should be done" holds true. It adds weight and complexity to an airplane that has a fairly narrow operating speed range (flat out). The props they use are very inefficient during acceleration and climb out, but that is such a short duration event, that it probably isn't worth the couple hundredth seconds it will gain you. In aerobatics where the operating environment is more variable, it could be an advantage, but with all that a pattern or IMAC pilot has to contend with, adding one more flight control would increase the pilot workload at the expense of performance. If you want to have one 'cause its cool, go for it.

RE: Adjustable pitch props?
Umm ok, I want it cause I want it. Complexity, not an issue with models to me. Weight, its a warbird, itll need nose weight. Im not racing it, Im not imacing it, Im not hovering it, Im not 3ding it. I want to swing a big prop with a little motor, and make it work.
Expense of performance? Its going onto a warbird, almost anything will work.
