1/3 Scale Pitts Build
Well I have a Pitts and I love it . Although it is a bit small for windy days. I decided to build a larger one and couldn't really find a kit or plan for a big one. I started to collect all the info and pictures I could find and drew my own plans for a 1/3 Scale Pitts.
Here are some specs"
Upper WS-80"
Lower WS- 69"
Engine- 80cc - 100cc gaser
Length- 69"
I'll do my best to keep the thread rolling but keep in mind its my hobby. And I'm building about a dozen other planes for myself and friends.

First the tail was built mainly because I am still making a few adjustment on my wing plans. I thought I better get a few pictures posted for your viewing pleasure.

OK on to the fuselage. I basically made a box from 1/4" lite-ply and lighten it by cutting alot of holes in it. Then I epoxied it together with 30 min. epoxy. Then I added some triangle balsa to reinforce the joints.

Next I designed some formers or whatever you want to call them. I made these out of 1/4" Lite-ply also. Again cutting lots of holes to keep it light.

I made some changes to F2 & F3 . I wanted to make holes on the interior of the fuselage for a 32oz. gas tank & a 32oz. smoke oil tank. Oh Yeah! Gotta have Smoke on a Pitts. I have a Sullivan Smoke unit. That's a 1/2" firewall made from two layers of 1/4" Birch ply glued together with 30 min. epoxy, notched & pinned from the sides.

My goodness, you must really enjoy building. I built a 1/3 scale pitts from a kit a couple of years ago, a monster build, it took me about 9 months and that was working on it most days.
Fantastic effort, good on ye. i`ll look forward to seeing this progress.
cheers

I sure do love to build and I love to fly and talking with everyone at the field. It's a great hobby I think. I just wish I could get some of my kids to love it as much as they love viedo games!

Thanks for the info. I probably always just use larger tanks to fly longer. I have a BME 80 Twin I might use or a GT80 Twin haven't decided yet. If those don't give me unlimited vertical I have a few 100cc twin laying around..that I may later put in it.... Don't really think I'll need that much power though.

I'm finished with the cowl plug, mold, and the finished cowl .. I made with 6oz. fiberglass cloth and epoxy resin. It's about a foot wide. Plenty of room for about any twin you would want to use! I hate cutting up my cowls. Really going for a Scale look!

Yes, very fun stuff! What I've posted so far is a couple of weeks worth of work in my spare time which I have very little of these days. My Grandmother was from the UK. I guess that makes me a bit English. Cheers.
