Default 1/10th Scale C-130E

Guys for a while now I been wanting to do a nice C-130. The only decent scale plans out there are the palmer plans. As many ppl know they are almost impossible to build from and a lot of ppl have been frustrated after getting kits and end up throwing it on the wayside.

Thus I decided to design one and make it more efficient for people to build. I chose 1/10th scale as my base scale which gives it a 148" wingspan. The reason I chose 1/10th instead of the common 1/9th is because 1/9th is 178 odd inches and just seemed too big for the average multi engine builder and 148" was a good medium.

it has taken me a good year to get my solid loft to where I am happy with it. I still need to add the wheel wells onto the side of the fuse and to loft up the nacelles but the real hard parts are complete.

Joe

Not sure yet need to get the nacelles lofted see what room I have but thinking G-38's with schundt reduction drives and scale props would be nice

yea I might think of electric the motors are cheap enough abt 150 each for ones will lift 20 lb planes easily but the batt packs I looked at for them for good ones were abt 600 each. but right now I am more concerned abt getting everything lofted up. the wheel pants I started on last night and they are a real challenge for me trying to figure out how to get them lofted up.

most of it is never can find real good CLEAN shots at diff angles of them to get the shape proper but I will get there

just got back from event sending my boys guard unit off to egypt for a year so will work a little more on the pant today I got it abt 2/3 way done as I am adding a section and lofting adding section and lofting until I get it all done then will reloft as a single loft

Joe

BTW am designing this with solidworks 2010 and might use solid edge for parts of it too

yes, battery packs for that HP are very pricy, I'm staying with Kero powered turbines for the large models.
You can still have a lot of fun with the 60/70mm fans.
Still, my TSR-2 is going to need a 4S- 4500mA/HR

I wished I had the money building a 1/9 scale at 178" and plopping in 4 wren turboprops would be really sweet.

right now ill settle for 4 chipmonks in squirrel cages and the way its going with the wheel pants lol wont need even them

I am on my 3rd redo and have yet to figure out how I am going to get that rounded front end lofted

well guys one of the forumites here was nice enough to share a rhino C-130 model with me which i was able to do some slices through and get some good outline slices from for the wheel well lofting.

The bad part is I need to start over. I always am double checking my math and references when making my solids before I go through all the trouble of making my part files. this time my math was off for the wingspan. I had 148" for the wingspan and after going to the airforce website got a new dimension and found out my wingspan should be 159"  also my fuse was 112" and it should be 117.5"

I did some more reading and came up with more info on the variants. it seems that for modelling purposes the A/E/H/J variants were all identical outline wise with the differences being different engines, props, and external tanks. Ref AF Factsheet http://www.af.mil/information/factsh...fsID=92&page=1

So that being said today I have resized my drawing outlines and will begin the tedious process of relofting stuff which will be more accurate.

AWESOME JOE! I would love to build a C-130 after i finish my C-5 Galaxy! Do you have any ideas of the price regime you would be offering it at? Will it be molded fuse or built up? Thanks, Nick

Will be a built up fuse. basically it will just be a plan set, but I am trying to design it so everything can be framed up and sheeted or strip planked as areas like nacelles and wheel wells will have to be.

not sure on the price yet, but since you were the first to ask ill give ya a set so you can build it as a prototype and post a build thread so i can see if I need to tweak stuff
