I recently built this airplane from RCM plans and I can send you a copy of the instructions if you have not already found a source. RS

If you happen to use RCM plans, you should know that whomever is currently running it will charge your credit card immediately but you won't see your plans for 4 - 12 weeks afterwards. Unfortunately, this is not an exageration.

I hate to bad-mouth these folks but that's been the way they've been doing business recently. I've been bitten myself, two times. If/when you finally do get hold of them via phone, their excuse is that the plans are 'just going out the door that very day'.

Caveat Emptor.

Bob

The Hooker was designed back in the mid 1970s and it's main purpose was for Club Funflies. Back then Chuck Cunningham, Ed Alexander, Gary Clay , Gary Skracek and myself designed our own variants. The plane was designed for quick take off, climb, rolls, spins and spot landings.

Here is how a funfly would go. The flyer would have one minute to climb to an altitude and spin. Whoever got the most spins in the minute allowed won.

Rolls as many rolls possible across the flying field.

Spot landings: five cards were painted on the run way, 10, jack, queen, king and ace. You got five landings. High hand won.

Here's my Sweeper: (What we called them back then)

Frank

I was asked by Darrell, the OP to post some info about my build, so here goes. I have a habit of making changes when I build from plans, and I made many changes to this design. I didn't care for the thick 20% airfoil so I borrowed an airfoil from a classic pattern plane called the "Deception" and cut foam wings and an airfoiled stabilizer which were sheeted with 1/16" balsa. I set the incidence's more like a pattern plane. Zero on engine and stab, .5 degree positive on the wing. I also added a taper to the wings, 12" at root, 10" at tip. I preferr a tail dragger configuration and it saves some weight. I tried to give it a more streamline appearance by adding a canopy and cowling in the engine. The final result is a fantastic flying airplane that grooves like a pattern plane but also has some 3D capabilities. The all up weight is 5 Lbs. 12 Ozs. The engine in the pictures is a Saito 82 which didn't quite have the power that I like, so it was replaced with a YS 63 which really brought this plane to life. My buddies have had a field day with the name, calling it everything from the Prostitute, to the *****, to the **** ( my personal fave).

Dan I placed an order with RCM plans service on Aug. 11 th. and still have not recieved them !! They will not answer the phone or e-mails !! Please tell everyone you know !! I did recieve the plans guide which is a JOKE !! its not the original and its condensed into ONE not the original TWO !! & its a condensed copy of the two, stapled in the middle ! You will get a recording saying that she will have to travel a long distance to have the problem solved and you will recive some GOODIES !! Wow a 1980s RCM patch and an outdat'ed engine crank size laminated card !! I posted this a few days ago in the plans for sale section only to have it deleted by JWN 28651 whoever that moderater may be ?? It looks like they would move it !! Not delete it !!

Darrell I see you have found the plans instuctons that you needed !! I have plans for a .25 size Hooker & I build a .90 size 4c 70" one !! They both fly great and my .25 was in Flying Models mag some years back !! Thanks to the late Randy Randolph who made a mention of it being the first .25 size r/c model to have the ability to HOVER with a .25 O.S. FP and 5 HS 81 servos

Hope this helps !! Dale

P.S. I have a lot of model mags back to the 1960s

You may wish to check out the Blue Max II, plans in Model Aviation, Feb 1985. Very similar type airplane, although a tad smaller, for a 0.40. I flew one of those for years, won a fun fly contest ( the prize was a Midwest Hots kit ).
