looking for de Havilland DH 2 plans

I am in search of plans for the de Havilland DH 2. Specifically, I want plans that include a scale, under cambered airfoil, not a flat bottom. I've already located plans that use a flat bottom airfoil. If the plans come in 1/4 scale, that would be great, but I'm willing to modify the plans to get 1/4 scale, so long as the profile of the airfoil is under cambered and not flat. Does anyone know where I can find these?

Thanks!

Dear Eindecker_Pilot:

The PIPE here again...and if you contact

Leo Opdycke
15 Crescent Road
Poughkeepsie, NY 12601

and check out what you can find at http://www.ww1aeroplanesinc.org/docs...als%20list.htm , there IS a set of SIX drawings of the DH-2 for your needs...three "general arrangement" drawings, AND three RIGGING drawings, for only $15 before postage for the set from Leo!

Also, Leo's quarterly WW I AERO magazine HAS run some NICE detailed illustrations of the COCKPIT and FITTINGS of the DH-2 over the past few years...I'll be "looking around" for those issues, and if you'd like scans of those illustrations sent to you, I'll see what my HP flatbed scanner and I can do for you!

Hope to hear from you real soon...

Yours Sincerely,

The PIPE! ;)

Thanks Pipe!

Would the "general arrangement" drawings be adequate to build from? Are these copies of actual blueprints (like full scale 3-views) or are they actual plans for a model of the DH2?

A set of plans that will be a good starting point for a scale project can be found at the new Cleveland models

http://www.clevelandairline.com/ASP/PRODUCT.asp

The new printing process make these come out clearer than ever. Mind you, you are working off a rubber plan that has been blown up but there is a lot of detail there. The only engineering is to figgure out how to get a motor in there.

Just a satisfied customer

Some years back RCM had a plans feature for the DH-2. Probably in their archives now..

Thanks for the leads. I did find the RCM plans and in fact ordered that back issue (sept. 1974). Unfortunately, the plans call for a flat bottom airfoil and it is something closer to 1/5 scale.

Kinko's for the re-scale of the plans...
A french curve for the undercamber.

Eindecker_pilot -

May, 1976 M.A.N. (p. 30) had a nice DH2 article by Peter Neate. MUCH nicer than the RCM, and undercambered airfoil! 2.25"=1ft scale.

DaveP,

Thanks for the feedback. I've found those Peter Neate plans at RCStore.com I'm glad you know they have the undercambered airfoil, the description on their website didn't say. I think I'll use those plans and enlarge them for quarter scale.

Dear Eindecker_Pilot:

The PIPE here once more...and those Peter Neate plans from Model Airplane News are orderable ONLINE...just checked at http://www.rcstore.com/rs/general/de...5762&catego=PL , and they ARE there!

I'll try to start rounding up those WW I AERO issues of mine, those with the DH-2 illustrations on the DETAILS. like the cockpit and fittings and such, to scan and send out in the coming days AND weeks (it COULD take that long...!)

Hope this helps...even those plans ARE at sort of an "oddball" scale to begin with...!

Yours Sincerely,

The PIPE! ;)

Alan Morgan's plans are actually drawn to quarter scale, but they have a flat bottom airfoil. I think I may use Peter Neate's airfoil enlarged to 1/4 scale & then grafted into Alan Morgan's plans. I've never done anything like that before, but it just might work. Am I crazy? I guess you gotta be a little crazy to love this stuff.
