Own design, scratch built, turbine jet.

Not a lot of interest in this sort of thing in the jets section, it seems to be a big dollar, fully moulded, ARF world over there.
I could not afford one so I built this. All wood, foam core wings & tail with a Wren Supersport for power. Weight: 21 pounds, Span: 82 inches, Length: 85 inches. Super stable & easy to fly. - John. |

RE: Own design, scratch built, turbine jet.
I'll second that. Looks superb and I bet you're the only one at the field that can say they BUILT their turbine ship...:D

It's a prettier place over here and we're the richer for you posting this. Dem snobs over in Jets don't know what they's missin'.... :D

hey, that is a sharp bird.
So, are the side nacelle intakes funtional, or does the jet breath just Outside Air Guess what I mean is: What route is the turbine air intake? |

Thanks guys! [sm=red_smile.gif] Kid E, yes, the intakes are functional. Air comes in under the elevator & rudder servos, over the wing then turns 90 deg into the engine compartment. The engine, being enclosed, runs much quieter. Not much can be done about the exhaust noise though, the instruction book for the engine quotes the exhaust velocity at 'over 800 miles per hour'! You want a better look at my what!!! [X(]
Byron, had not really thought about a plan. I would make it a 'mark 2' though, there's a few changes I'd make if I built another one. Then again I usually scratch build scale models & this is just a test bed for the scale jet I'm currently building. Being my first jet this one is really my turbine trainer. - John. |
RE: Own design, scratch built, turbine jet.
Boomerang1, do you know where I can get jet trainer plans?
|
RE: Own design, scratch built, turbine jet.
Byron, have a look here http://www.uflyhobbies.com/discovery.htm
I believe it's a plan at this stage with available foam cores. It looks a good basic jet, just needs to be made a little more pretty. - John. |
