ORIGINAL: timothyb ...... just trying to decide what color(s) to cover it in. I will probably use a combination of transparent and solid film. http://www.rc-airplane-advisor.com/h...stic-trim.html http://www.rcuniverse.com/gallery/galleryfindTitle.cfm |

I have begun covering it using transparent blue and opaque cream Monokote. It will mostly be blue except for the cowl, landing gear farings, rudder, and wing leading edges.

RE: scratch built biplane
The fuselage is basically done except for a few minor details. I will be moving on to the wings soon. I am using Monokote. I have gone through a lot of it so far just to get the turtle deck right. I probably covered and re-covered it at least 8 times until I finally figured out how to get the wrinkles out between the stringers.

Well I didn't like the way the first covering job turned out so I went with a transparent blue and white. Then I learned the hard way about getting epoxy into the hinge points. After that I decided to rebuild the entire tail section. Instead of the support bars on the top, I put them on the bottom and used wire supports on the top. The tail is very rigid now, probably over kill but it looks cool. I will be starting the covering on the wings next.

Almost done now. Just need to paint the wheel hubs white, glue in the ailerons, and seal the aileron gaps with clear monokote.

RE: scratch built biplane
That turned out beautifully, really nice work. Good luck with the test flights.

Its finally done. All the loose ends have been tied up and it has been balanced. Heavier than i thought at 43 oz with the battery, but still a light wing loading of about 11 oz/square foot. I had to add about 2 1/2 oz to the nose to get it balanced right. I plan on flying it after some taxi tests and shorts hops.

RE: scratch built biplane
That's gonna fly really well.
