I have done a little research on this kit and it seems that there is not a whole lot of positive feedback on it. I bought this because it was one of my 1st kits back in the day. My plan is to bash it to look like the supermarine s6b. Any advice to make this a better flyer would be appreciated. I am building this while on assignment down south. Should be interesting

That'd be quite a bash,, first off, I'd keep the float system as light as possible,, maybe use foam, you know,, ya want to keep the wing loading down as much as possible with these small planes

Good luck

Itbwill be a simple bash actually. I will keep the single float, round the wing tips, put tge 2 header fairings, enlarge vertical stab, open cockpit, rounded horizontal stabs. I am not looking for any troubles.... trust me on this one.

I have decided to do the build. This will be interesting because i am a contrator now. My services are required here in mississippi. So the first thing i had to do was find a hobby shop to get the needed supplies. Now maybe i havent been looking for building supplied lately but it was easier going to your local home depot to get what i needed. The HTown i went too was absolutely no help. I could find glue but not much more. Pitiful. So here are some pics of my portable shop.

I the vertical stab is where there will be the biggest change. We maintain the same area but the rudder will be above the fuse with an added dorsal fin.

the fuse changes are the added dorsal which flows into the cockpit. You will also see the additional chin area and the engine header exhaust covers. I will also add a hatch in the cockpit area and possibly glue the wing to the fuse if i find the hatch eill give me the access i need. The header and chin will be blue foam.

The construction continues. One of the difficult thibgs about buildi g in a motel room is finding a flat surface to build on. I went to home depot to buy a ceilibg tile but you have to buy a carton of those to get one. My next choice was a cork covered message board from walmart. $8.00 and we will see how it goes.

The instructions have you start with the center section. Then its onto the outer wibg panels. My building board is not big enough for both panels so it will be one at a time.

Work is proceeding along. Dont want to get done to fast. Starting on tge 2nd wing panel. I normally fly 1/5 scale planes. This is small but i guess that is why i got it.

While visiting the local hobby shop. I was playing with their flight simulator and they had the supermarine s6b on it. Enjoyed being reinspired. I do like the twin fliat setup. I noticed that they wete selling 25 size fiberglass floats also some foam floats for the smaller foamies. Is there a formula for figuring what size floatsone should use?

Typical Float length is about 75% of Fuse length for a twin float set up

Good basic fundimental tips in the Chuck Cunningham artical

Pluses and Minuses to "EP float planes" for sure

Plus, no glow mess, no dead sticks stranded on the lake,

Minuses, where as you can water proof the electronics somewhat, sometimes when the motor/esc gets dunked, you're dead.

Good video on water proofing here

good luck

I think I will be ordering some 25 size floats from tower since they are ARF and foam. I also took a look at some possible other planes that the Kittywake could be bashed into. How about a macci M C 72

I ordered some gear from Tower since there is not a chance that the LHS will have what I need. I ordered the servoes, rimfire 25 42-40-1000 outrunner brushless and Great Planes Silver Series 45A Brushless ESC 5V/2A BEC speed controller, Origin Wilga-2000 Float Set, cutout the new wing tips. They will add about 5" to the wingspan. from 47 to 52". Glued the 2" pieces for the Horizontal stab and did the ruff cut of the outline.
