I am using a DLE 30, the lake that is in the video is at 4000 feet. So the extra power is needed. You could use that in Colo. I have flown at lakes up to 9000 feet with electrics just add a bigger prop and your good to go. You have to keep up your speed but other than that it is a lot of fun.
I go up to Twin Lakes too, that is at 7200 feet.

it has a electric 110 running 8 cells, I really had to change a lot on this plane to get it flown.
