Default Electric Martin P6M-2

Attached (I hope) is a photo of my 1/16th-scale model of the Martin P6M-2. It's powered by 4 HW609 fans, 4 Mega Acn22/20/2 motors and 4 packs of 10 x 1300 NiCd; W/S is 77.2 inches; AUW something over 18 lbs. Have not had it to the H2O yet, but hope to soon (as soon as new station wagon arrives, around Christmas).

What a FAN tastic looking (pardon the pun) project. Very ambitious and I look forward to seeing and hearing flight reports.

Hello!

"Tom" emailed me inquiring about drawings for the model: I drafted the construction drawings from a couple of references; hull cross-sections came from a drawing in one of the references. Following is a more detailed description of the model (which also gives references), and a couple of 'in-process' construction photos. I'll have to convert some other photos to a compatible file format, and will post them if there's any interest.

Martin P6M-2

controller
Total Weight: as built - 300oz/18.75 lbs
Thrust/Weight Ratio: ca 33%
Construction:
Balsa stick with most areas covered with 1/20th balsa sheet; some blue foam used for complex shapes; heat-
shrink covering; some areas (hull, etc.) covered with fiber glass

Notes:
1. Construction drawings were drafted from references.

2. Balance point was computed with the aid of several 'correspondents' (via the Ezone); there was only one mention of the aircraft cg in reference 3; model starting balance point is very close to the cg for the first prototype aircraft.

3. The hydro flaps on the aircraft assisted in directional control when the aircraft was on the water surface. Scale hydro flaps are incorporated in the model, but they will deploy when the model is airborne (at least until a mod is incorporated to disable their servo after takeoff).

4. The model does not have the wing slats that were part of the aircraft; these could be incorporated if a model builder has sufficient talent/patience.

References:

1. Several three-view drawings from National Museum of Naval Aviation, Pensacola, Florida.

2. Photos from Martin photo history web site.

I noticed your fabulous model only now! Wonderful job!

Do you have any construction picture? That would be great!
