Default Martin M130 / Boeing 314 clipper

Hello,
I am new to the world of seaplanes and was wondering if anyone has plans or makes a kit for either of these planes. I have always been fascinated with the China clipper. I have a few actual parts of it from it's crash site near my home. I would love to build a flying model of one.
Have great day!

I've started work on plans for the Boeing 314 clipper... have decided that it will be a monster 1:10 scale & be able to accomadate four dia 6" Technpower A radials. span will be 15.2' fuselage width to be around 14.5"
Construction to be foam, ply, balsa & fiberglass.

Still trying to gather photo & linart information. I already have much of these but the lineart dwgs are inaccurate. Does anyone know if one can purchase aircraft plans prints etc of this historical aircraft from the boeing company?

Hi guys I dont know if youve seen my data thread over there http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...t=448080&pp=15 there are plans available but I dont know if youve come across those. Theres a link to a beautiful scale Example that was built but came a cropper sadly.

For the 314 visit Seawings ..the Uk flyingboat site it has scale drawings.

Reaaz have you found the large 3 views on the Russian and French Sites?

The Martin and the Boeing have the edge in size but the C Class Empire boats piled on the miles they were amongst the first big multi engine all metal monoplanes .treat yourself and download Brian Cassidy's massive PDF book on them.

At one time I might have put he 314 as the top of my list for pre war piston boats but these days I would probably put the French Latecoere 631 up as my most elegant of them all.[img]

Lroy:

Did you ever find the plans you were looking for?

I'm thinking about getting the Model Aviation plans from AMA. They're for the Martin, 74" WS and four .10s, published 1983. If I built one, I'd use four OS 30 four strokes.

Does anyone else out there have any knowledge of these plans?

Hi there!

I have a couple of dimensioned 'three-view' drawings of the Boeing 314 Clipper; they were obtained from the Boeing archives office several years ago, before Boeing more or less shut the operation down. If anyone wants copies of these drawings, let me know and i can email scanned versions.

Bob, I've got he magazine which you show on your picture. The wing for that beast was a modified Goldberg Cessna Skylane wing which was available as a replacement wing kit back then. The fuselage was pretty complex and that corragated skin, burrr! Used four 09's. I think about 9' would be about right for 4 46's.
A fellow up here built a four engine flying boat which was originally 60 sized and powered it with four LA 15's, They seemed quite reliable and the plane flew great.
You know, the hobby isn't expensive, it's the truck and trailer and /or motor home required to haul these things around that costs the money.

Thanks, Peter

Since it used a wing from another design, I suspect there are no wing drawings in the plans.

I've since decided that an 80" Beechcraft 18 on floats would make a better subject for my first multi engined model. Traplet House has the plans.

Actually Bob, I believe the wing drawings were included; The skylane wing was just an option.
We must think alike, I've had a Beach 18 on the workbench for longer than I care to admit. It was the old Bryce Peter son design for a pair of 15's and I have been contemplating floats for it.
Good Luck.

Right on!

This is what I'll use for an example: she's running fisherman up to northern Ontario.

From what I've heard the Beach 18 was a bit of a pig, especially on floats. One of the reasons that most of them are narural aluminum finish is that a paint job took nearly 200# of payload off the gross.
We have a Barkley-Grow in our local museum, although it is similar to the Beech (and probably a better airplane) I still like the looks of the Beech.
So many projects, so little time!

Dear Mr. Plummer,

I am interested in the Model 314 3-views. Do you still have access to either paper copies or electronic copies? I would be very interested in either.

Thanks,

Zeke Valtz

I looks like David Plummer has not been online since last April. However, he was kind enough to email the drawings to me, so I can help you out if he does not respond to this thread....

Hello Guys
I am an avid scratchbuilder of all types of planes. I am researching the Boeing 314 Clipper for a possible build in a large size. I have been researching the internet for days trying to find plans or good detailed 3 views to study this plane for a build. I have finished Kawanishi H8K3 Emily with e-power with a 100 inch wingspan. Any help here is greatly appreciated.

A video of my plane can be found here with some other scratches I made.

Thank You

Hi there!

I can email you some small 3-views of some 'drawings' I obtained from Boeing; if you want them, drop me an email at [email protected].

Cheers,

Laddie. Thank you very much for the nice plans and your compliment. I can build this Boeing 314 with these plans with very little problems. These plans are is great discovery of a peice of aviation history. Not much was found in actual plans in Google.

Here is the Emily build log with high quality plans
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1417974

I made contact also with David Plummer. He offered some drawings also. Maybe they are similar or the same as these. I found an original Comet Kit hardwood plans yesterday. Very nice

Been a long time sense there has been any activity on the Boeing 314. I have started a 1:11 scale for a client, 165.8125" span and 116.625" Fuselage length.
