Ace RC "Capt. Eddy" ARF Floats?
Ace RC "Capt. Eddy" ARF Floats?
I have a set of discontinued .20-sized floats from Ace RC that I want to use on a Goldberg Freedom 20. Any comments, positive or negative about these floats are appreciated. I would rather use something else if there are issues with these. Thanks in advance!

RE: Ace RC "Capt. Eddy" ARF Floats?
I had this exact combo a number of years ago. I used CA to assemble the floats with white silicone sealer for waterproofing. I had to check the silicone occasionally because after a while it would peel off. The plane flew well with the floats on, (I learned to fly with this plane on the floats, my instructer lived on a lake). I had an old plain bearing TT 25 for power which was fine for most days, but if the wind was calm and there was no chop on the lake, it would not take off. After a couple of seasons I re-engined it with an OS 40 FP and the problem was solved. I sold it a while ago and I miss the plane.
Cheers!

I am flying a set of 40 size now and I have a set of 60 size on the shelf. They are a little heavy, but they work well on the water. Put a block of foam inside a few inches ahead of the step as you assemble them to keep the top and bottom separated. They have a tendency to squish together in the middle and the bottom turns concave.
Put them together with CA and go back over all seems with thick CA to seal them. Mine are 10 years old and have never leaked. I hit a log in the water one time and split a seam, let it dry for an hour in the sun, glued it back together with CA and flew some more.
Sounds like you have a nice setup coming there. Enjoy it.

RE: Ace RC "Capt. Eddy" ARF Floats?
Thanks for the info and tips. I think I'll be okay with them.
I wonder if one of the flexible CA adhesives, like Flex-ZAP, would be ideal for these floats? Hobby Lobby has some adhesives specifically for ABS as they sell ABS-hulled Graupner boats.
Learning to fly from the water must have been cool, that's one I haven't heard before, Jollidude. Thanks again, guys. I'll remember the foam block Jim.
