I built these floats (foam core, balsa sheeted, of my own design) and mounted them for a friend. I think I put in 1.5 degrees of incidence on the floats. What ever it is it flys great and looks real while taxing, taking off, and landing. It has a Saito 72 on it and it flys really, really, fast but bring it down to 1/4 throttle and it flys nice and scale. Also, make sure the step is about 3/4" behind the CG and install splash rails. The prop will love to eat the water if you don't.

Very nice cessna and floats JMcRae ! but, when you say 1.5 degree of incidence on the floats, is it negative or positive ? And did you use a ventral fin on it ? is it necessary for this plane ?

Thanks

Danny.

Positive (float's nose up) and there is no ventral fin. I haven't seen any reason why you would need one. Post picks of yours when you're done.

Sorry, I was really tired when I wrote the last post. The floats should have negative incidence so the wing will have a higher AOA when sitting level on the water. It helps with taking off. Hope my mistake didn't cause you to make one.

Definatly the Ernst. My only suggestion about the Ernst would be to modify it by drilling out the plastic rubber band post and replace it with some music wire. The first time you bump the water rudder while loading/unloading or hanger rash will break this post and ruin your day. Just make sure to use a very small amount of CA when gluing in the music wire because the post for pivoting the unit is hollow and CA will glue it together (Is it obvious that I've done that before?). Also, don't have the water rudder stick down below the step. This will make takeoffs and touch and goes ugly at best. With it above the step, as soon as you come up on step the water rudder will be lifted out of the water and the directional control will be accomplished using the air rudder. Consider it a natural dual rate. Float flying is the most fun I've had in RC yet and I have a few friends who would rather fly their float planes than fly their Jets. Good luck and post pictures
