I was able to find this:
SPECIFICATIONS

Wingspan: 71.7 in (1820 mm)

Wing Area: 760 sq in (49 dm2)

Weight: 5.5 lb (2500 g)

Fuselage Length: 45.3 in (1150 mm)

Requires: 2-stroke .35-.40 cu in (6.0-6.5 cc) or 4-stroke .50 cu in (8 cc) engine, 4-channel radio w/5 servos.

With that Fuselge length, common practice would be to use 36" floats. Normally I recommend styrofoam-core floats. SF or Falcon plastic floats are also quite good.
Built-up wood floats tend to be good for storing water and making for mildew breeding science project.

They work well, but all reports are that they are heavy.

I think I would cheat and use the slightly small but better ModelFly floats. In the UK, available from Ripmax. Falcon Trading in the US. A faithful advertiser to this forum, and drawing rave reviews.

JimCasey;

That is true.
I have a GP float kit for 40 unbuilt in the box. It is so heavy that I
don't feel like building it. The weight of the box is not the weight of
tha float itself, but can be speculated.

lord lucan;

I would suggest that you add a vertical fin under the rear of the
airplane when you fly cub with floats since two floats give bad
affect to the plane from a lack of vertical area of the tail.
An addition of a fin will make the Cub turn easily in the air.
A J-3 Cub does not have enough vertical area(small vertical
stabilizer) even when without floats.
