Vidio of the Quad Kaydet last month at the London Bridge fly. The first part is one of my helpers flying his first float fly with his Uproar and the vidio is thanks to him.

The first flight with the Quad on the vidio was on three but it was not worth coming back ashore for.

Pacific Aeromodels Knockabout. This ARF went together so fast I thought I forgot a couple of steps! It took longer to cut the cowl than to assemble the rest of the plane. Everything is laser cut and fits perfectly. A couple of flights on wheels to check the balance and control throws, then on to floats. A little of color to match the plane with the Modelfly floats and I have one of the nicest flying float planes I have every had. The guys in the club are amazed how well it takes off, flies, and lands. Fast enough to be fun with a O.S. 46FX and not be rediculously overpowered. I used H9 60 size Ultra Stik landing gear to mount the floats. The Pacific Aeromodels website (www.pacaeromodel.com) have drawings for the floats. All in all a great flier.

2nd new float plane for me this winter. Thank goodness I don't have to deal with snow or ice and can build (assemble?) and fly during the winter - it's the only time I'm home. ModelFly Cardinal. These are some of the best flying float planes anyone can buy. Nothing special about it, just a fun float plane that's dependable and tough. Now up to 4 float planes, so it's always a fun choice to decide what to take to the pond. Pictures of both planes are the day after Christmas and water was a little choppy, but still fun flying.

Liking the Knockabout Russ any close ups? Oh, I had an ARC cardinal - a nice looking plane an excellent choice for a water plane, however I have been flying for many years and was still caught out by the tapered wing on a slow approach . . . so watch that tip stall and dont slow it down to much on that final turn - my did not recover and spun in . . .

Siddus,

You aren't the first to warn me about the tip stall on the Cardinal, but thank you. A couple of others in the club have had it happen to them also, 1 lost, 1 saved. The picture of the Knockabout was just as I finished installing the floats on the plane, but had not installed the 3/16" music wire I used as spreader bars between them yet. I have heard they are coming out with different color schemes soon.

The scale model of New Zealand amphibious plane called SHEARWATER. The wingspan is 80”. Powered by AXI 4130/16. The flying weight is 9.5 Lbs. The wing is foam and rest is balsa. The model is ready to be flown. I will try to fly it from the snow first. Right now all the snow is melting.
Laddie.

Wow very nicely done. Too bad you haven't started a build thread The forward part of the fuse looks like it's molded.
What about the batteries and esc ? Just to have an idea of the price tag...
Oh and do you intend selling the design to any rc magazine ?

Nothing was molded. The top of the fuselage is planked with 1/4"x 1/8” balsa strips. I am using two 3S 5000mA LiPo batteries in series. I am using the Castle Creation PHONIX-60 with CC add on BEC. At the moment I am not offering the design to anyone. First I have to find out how well it flyes.

Thanks for the pics Laddie. I was asking myself, do you think that a glow engine would cause cg issues on this bird ? I mean , there would be no way to place heavy batteries (3s 5000mAh) at the front...

I really like your Shearwater. That plane looks way cooler than the Sewind any day. How long have you been biulding and designing her?

As with most of the pusher designs, there is going to be cg issue, but so what. Just place the lead in the nose. The total weight still might be just 9 t0 10 Lbs. My 3s 5000 mA batteries just manage to balance the model.

I started making the drawings at the beginning of November. I took me about two weeks to make the drawings. I am always trying to make accurate drawings before I start building. Making the drawing was more challenge then I was expecting. But at the end all the parts fit properly.
The model was finished last week.

Yeah you're right, this aircraft is a big model, it should handle additional weight better than the Northstar where I think this was more crititcal... I still think your Axi is lighter than say a .90 sized engine. Maybe a light muffler or an enclosed forward facing tuned pipe could ease balancing.

Strykaas. On the SHEARWATER with .90, the model will require more lead. The flying weight might jump to 12Lbs. One thing that limits the size of the engine is size of prop. Maximum diameter prop which will fit is 13”. Even on my model, I might go to three blade prop to use all the thrust available from the motor. Full size plane used three blade prop as well.
