No retracts. My son machines parts for the military JFS. He is going to engineer and build retracts for this plane. Meanwhile we will retro-fit a set of bolt on gear that can be removed for water flights. I found the plane listed on flying giants swap shop. I paid less than $2,000. The previous owner claimed that the Kit sold for $2600. I will have more info when I pick up the plane.

Holly WOW! Batman!

My dream airplane, you have it and I don't.

I'll get over it. I hope.

What about paint? Are you gifted in that area? Friends that paint?

Pick out something yet?

I would not cut that model up for retract gear. You could place tubes from the fuselage side to side and flush, 5 actually, if you do the math.

Gear could be fabricated to fit into the 5 tube openings. Could be easly removed for water flying.

Good idea?

Keep us posted.

Wow! I love float flying and just found this thread.
Y'all are flying one of my dream planes; the Widgeon.
I've been water flying for 30 years and always thought about that big Widgeon, but was having too much fun with Northstars, Lakers, Cubs, and now the (baby North star) Polaris.

I have a 1/4 scale Super Decathlon on floats that really flys great on a G-38. It's a Dynaflyte kit and weighs only 23 pounds.
Someday I'll have a widgeon model, Now I have a 80 pound Golden Retriever named "Widgeon" and he does well in the water too! I'll try to attach a pic of the Decathlon.

I wanted a float plane that was both scale and aerobatic, and man do I have one now with this Decathlon.

I have built a few twin seaplanes, my favorite is a ACE Seamaster 120 with two Saito 120s on turbo style nacelles.

Anybody have a big Widgeon kit for sale or trade?

Have been working on my little Grumman Widgeon from Great Planes/Electrifly. Nice to have a good quality small ARf of this great aircraft. Model is a little on the heavy side, but looks great and seems to fly well in the videos.

I disagree with your friend. Most of these are coming in at about 40 pounds and they fly just fine. They are not your typical yank and bank model, you actually have to fly this one. It does have some of the nasty characteristics of the full scale brother. It loves to porpoise if the CG is off and even then you have to let the elevator go to neutral on touchdown, don't hold it off and drop it in. You'll love flying it and people will flock around it to see a giant scale seaplane.

Do you know where I can find the 1/4 scale pattern? I want to build one with my grandpa. He has the real plane, but we want a RC just like it.

Thanks

Hey gang! I realize this is an OLD thread, but if I may say, this 71" Widgeon is back in stock as a fiberglass fuselage ARF. Just opened the box and everything looks great: http://www.valuehobby.com/airplanes/seaplane/71in-widgeon.html

Dear Fellow Widgeon Lovers
My name is Dan Metz and I have a nice video for you all shot last Sept. at the Hemet Model Masters Pine Float Fly at Lake Hemet Ca.
Please scroll down to my Widgeon flight as there are a few just above it, this is the Widgeon that was built by Oscar Weingart in Riverside. I also have a Super Widgeon too, it is powered by 2 OS 320 4 cyl engines. Both of them are gorgeous. Hope you like the video. Dan

Hi , i am building the Widgeon now 80" wingspan , i am building it from RCM plans ,but have done it in my own way , the wing i am building as 3 piece in balsa sheeted foam. I have don some changes on the fuselage too.
I hope it will fly as good as the PAF Widgeon, (i saw a video of it).

You can see some pictures of my build here : www.nilsreinert.blogspot.no
