Default Sig LT-40 with floats

I'm installing some Supper Flying Models floats on a Sig Kadet LT-40. I didn't notice at the hobby shop but these floats have the water rudder comming out the bottom rather than off the back of the float. I've been told that the water rudder should not be in the water when on step. With this set up it will be in the water even when the float isn't. It's a big rudder too. Has any body had any experiance with this?
