water rudder rigging?
I'm in the process of building my floats and I need pics or drawings of the water rudder rigging (cables, rollerblocks and rudders). I purchased two Earnst 1/4 scale rudders and found some scale looking roller blocks. My floats are not true scale but close enough for me. I also need ideas for making the hatch covers (what materials to use). Any help would be appreiciated. I will be out of town until tuesday and will check back then. I'm going on a road trip to enjoy my other hobby. Thanks

RE: water rudder rigging?
Sorry,
No drawing but the easiest is to run a "golden rod" or similar in a loop from the aircraft's rudder curing forward and down in a centle curve until it tuns back on itself and attaches to the water rudder on the float. Hope this makes sence but I'm sure one of the contributers who has a drawing package will sketch for you. This is a very commonly used method and minimises linkages, corrosion and drag.
You only need one water rudder and make sure it isn't placed too deep, it just needs to skim the water's surface to be effective otherwise it may proove difficult to reach take off air speed without a breeze.
Cheers,
Colin

RE: water rudder rigging?
Take a look at this. You can see cables from the rudder horn, forward and down to the float, then back to the water rudder. On MY plane, I went all the way forward to the rear landing gear strut.
You will have to cross the cables once or the water rudder will work reverse to the action of the air rudder.
Ernst rudders have a retraction mechanism. Rudders should be retracted for anything other than displacement taxi. It will take another servo. Up to you.
