Mounting 4*60 on floats
Anybody have any pics handy to show how they mounted floats under their 4*60. I would like to be able to switch back and forth from floats to wheels without alot of hassle.
Thanks

I don't have any pictures but what I did was bolt the front bracket of the floats to where the landing gears bolts on the aircraft, and then I bolted the rear bracket of the floats to the wing hold down bolts.
When you remove the wing bolts you will have enough space to lift the floats and remove the wing.
Hope this helps.

Dave:
I'll get you some more pix tomorrow of how I am doing what you asked about.
I wanted my 4 Star to be "biphibian" so I built Flybaby floats from the RCM plans. They're pretty much as drawn, but I moved the aft strut mounts quite a bit aft. The bottoms are glassed for abrasion resistance, and their entire surface was coated with finishing epoxy before painting. The struts are mostly 5/32" wire with some lighter stuff for the bracing.
I have four equally spaced holes with blind nuts in the landing gear block ahead of the wing. The spacing fits either the Dubro glass main gear, or the front float mounting bock. The mounting block is a piece of 3/8" oak ply with a groove cut in the center to accept the float wire. The rear float mounting block is similar, but uses only the two wing hold down bolts. Because it's so thick, I have to use 2" nylon bolts when installing the floats.
I extended the rudder below the fuse, and added a ventral fin to match. The Sullivan tail wheel is steered by a forward running pushrod from the bottom of the rudder. The water rudder will be a piece of brass sheet silver soldered to some 5/32" wire. If you look close, you can see the wheel collar that allows for attaching the water rudder to the bottom of the main rudder for float operation.
I made water proof boxes for the aileron, rudder and elevator pushrods, with dubro bellows to seal them.
Power is a Magnum 91 RFS with a 14 oz tank. Should have good endurance.
More later.
Bob

RE: Mounting 4*60 on floats
Thanks for the info guys.
I flew for the first time off water last weekend. Had some floats under an old trainer but can't wait to get the 4* out there. Our club has the use of a provincial park to float fly from. It is alot nicer than the regular flying field with the park setting and trees behind us.
