Default seamaster .40 rudder question

hello,

I recently bought a seamaster .40 off of a fellow that flies down at our field.. He says that he built it 9 years ago and flew it once, and not off water. I noticed that there is no rudder attached to the rudder(wow that sounds funny) anyways, is this ok? will I still be able to steer it in water? I noticed that the seamaster's main rudder sits low in the water anyway..

P.S. the OS.46 fired right up first turn after nine years of sitting..

I have the ARF,it has a piece of plastic that bolts at the bottom of the rudder,it pivots so when your on land it swings up so it does not get hung up on something.Your going to need some kind of rudder or you are going to be fighting it.

I flew mine without a water rudder all the time. It will turn fine when you're moving fast enough for the rudder to be effective, but it doesn't work well at low speed.

Next time the wife opens a can of beans, you can grab the top and cut the rudder out of the flat part.

I could tell you how to steer without a water rudder, but I've beat that to death and nobody listens anyway.

Just cut a piece of 1/8" plywood like the picture and attach it to the rudder with a single screw - This way if you hit something (Like a rock) it will swing up and not break

I bought a Sea Master 40 at a swap meet. It came with wheels, but I can't figure out how to keep the main gear on. There are two brass tubes on the bottom of the fus on the inside. I know the wheels slide into these, but how do you keep them on?

Stretch an elastic band from one side to the other under the fuselage hooked around the gear legs. That should prevent them from falling out.
As to the water rudder question, tin is sharp and could cut your finger and plywood falls apart after it has been wet for a while. A piece of plastic sheet will last the longest, bend over when you put the plane down on the water rudder and last forever.

PLastic COREPLAST works great for the water rudder and is actually what the arf comes with. I had problems keeping my rudder dry with the way the bolt goes through the rudder and took it off. Any way I am curious why you have no rudder and also how the vertical stabilizer is built with out the rudder. The vertical stabilizer is what the rudder mounts to.

I had a great time with my sea master and want to get another.

Have fun and safe flying.
