Hiya Randy,
Well I finally flew it... Day was a bit crappy but.
Had it all balanced at the 80mm from LE mark ( no fuel, of course ) and throws as manual, running a Saito 180 four stroke with a MAS Classic 18x8 prop.
Flight was a little disappointing apart from the quick take-off, Engine way more powerful than was needed as only 1/2 throttle used. The turns needed heaps of rudder and she climbed like an elevator with more throttle on.
Think I need more ( 2mm thick washer ) down thrust to fix the power up, plane go up trimmings
About the turns... I definately will be adding some aileron - rudder mixing, and do you guys think aileron differential would help too???
What do you guys think??

I would get the engine thrust line sorted out first.
Once you have your down thrust sorted, check the side thrust by flying vertical (sounds like you have the power) then watch for deviations as it slows down. If it veers left add right thrust and vice versa.
Then check lateral balance by flying a reasonably tight loop (one only). If it comes out right wing low shift weight to the left or add weight to the left wingtip.
Having done all that see how it flies.
It is a scale model, and coordinated turns are what you would have to do in the full size as I'm sure you are aware.
I have a 1/4 scale Super Cub that could do with aileron differential and aileron to rudder mix, but I prefer to fly it as per the full size.
I find it more fun and more of a challenge. It's personal preference though.
Having said that, if the adverse yaw is particularly bad, then it will not be much fun to fly.
To check for this, fly a 1/2 roll in the vertical. Best to do this by flying towards yourself then pull to vertical, do a 1/2 roll. If heading veers left after a right 1/2 roll, it needs increased aileron differential.

Oh, btw.
Choosing not to add aileron to rudder mix and working your left thumb a bit more, dosen't take that long to get used to and it will make you a much better pilot.

I too fly beavers but smaller than most of you... mine are all heavily modded GWS beavers but I will be starting on a new KMP electric beaver shortly... surprised the new 68" KMP electric hasnt been mentioned yet.

Many thanks for your replies Didg...
I don't have an incidence meter for doing the engine thrust, so I have added washers ( 2mm thick ) to the tops of the engine mounts. Pretty sure I have set up the aileron differential right... less aileron down, ie full left aileron turn has left aileron fully up and the right aileron has about half of it.
I have also added more weight to the nose, bringing the CG forward around 5mm.
Got some mixing to the rudder done but on a switch so I can turn this mix off and learn like you suggest to use my thumb.
Anyone using the FEMA Onboard Starters??? or is it easy enough to make your own for cheaper?? Though it'll make useful nose weight seeing as I need quite alot.
Hope to re fly with these alternations the next day or so.

Yes am surprised too not a mention of the new electric KMP Beaver, The KMP electric Beaver is showing a 59" Wingspan... where as the E-flite electric Beaver is the 68 inch one. I think I'd actually prefer the E-Flite 68 inch Beaver as it's bigger and has a more pleasing ( to me anyways ) colour scheme

OK Maiden flight accomplished! Went well, put in 30% rudder mix with 3/4 in up with 1/2 in down on the ailerons, was the right combination. Full flap landing was sweet! Great flying airplane

I like.
How easy was it to convert to glow, any major problems, balance etc.
I wish H9 would make a big version of this, 1/5th scale or somwhere around that (1.20 size) in blue preferably.

No majar problems, balance was perfect nose slightly down when held on cg. Here are some pics of the first set up. bad landing in a creek bed popped fire wall so thewn shifted the wall back 28mm, inproved access to glow plug, will ppost some pic's when I get some.

Rich thanks I could'nt go with those plastic wing tips so hence the balsa droop tips, oh the carving and shaping, did I mention the carving and shaping? I really liked adding that ohio tailwheel assy. Took off all the shock to the rudder servo, still removable and leaves me with a tiller arm for water rudder cable hookup ala Cub steering. Can I ask what you used for your pontoon structure and fittings? Khelsea

I used 1/8 x 3/4 alum covered weth wood to stiffen it up for the cross brases. Used 1/4 alum thick wall tubbing for all the uprights. 1/4 brass angle for the steps. all bought at ACE hardware. Then used Brass coated cable from Hobby Lobby for all the rigging. I used 1/2 alum angle for attachment at the float. I carved the floats from foam and sheeted them with 1/16 balsa on the sides and bottom. Used 1/8 light ply for the top with 1/4 ply added under the top ply where the attachments go. Rich
