KM = Caspian Sea Monster
This is one craft sort to speak that i wanted to do as RC model since i found out about it in early 90s back home, since then i have been trying to find and build documentation on KM the biggest one of the family. Today i found video on youtube on this monster again and with todays electric technology and EDFs i think its possible to do this beast on large scale as this monster is bigger in length then B747!...

Some more very rear footage...

what are the possibilities to start on this project, has anyone else tried something similar to build in past??, as this is one of those very exclusive subjects to do...

Keep in mind the original craft was designed as a WIG type of craft, it was not designed for flight.

I am going to get his plans to learn from them and implement his airfoil and other key features in to my design with EDFs instead of props. Still long ways to go on this one, yet i am thinking on length of 100"-120" with 40"-45" wingspan model, as for scale i don't know, whatever it may be.
So far specs i found on real KM were:
Wingspan 131 ft (40 m)
Length 348 ft (106 m)
Height 22 m
Weight 495 tonnes - loaded
540 tonnes - maximum takeoff
Engine 10 (8+2) x VD-7
Maximum speed 500 km/h
Range 3000 km
Armament None
Crew ?
Produced 8 (1965-78)

KM is the russian version of "test aircraft". Numbers on the tail ranging from 1-8 are for different phases of experement, all done with the same plane. : )
The only three operational A-90 Orlyonok ekranoplans built (with renewed hull design) and one Lun-class ekranoplan remained at a naval base near Kaspiysk.
Since the fall of the Soviet Union, ekranoplans have been produced by the Volga Shipyard[1] in Nizhni Novgorod located at 56°21′58.08″N, 43°52′14.26″E.
As of 2006-09-06, two ekranoplans could be seen on Google Earth at Kaspiysk, The Lun, located at 42°52′54″N, 47°39′24″E and an Orlyonok at 42°52′50″N, 47°39′57″E. A structure on a nearby beach may be a third disassembled ekranoplan.

RE: KM = Caspian Sea Monster
Here are those images...
Selleri i thought KM was types of different models produced but it seem as only one beast was ever built, thanks for the information.
This model is do-able but i am thinking on turning radius of this beast as seen in clips they had huge turning radious due to closeness to the surface of water!!...
What types of EDF are available now days that can produce all the thrust to zip the model across the lakes or rivers?,i am not into electrics so if somebody can point out what would be the way to go...

Great plans makes a DF unit (Hyperflow) about 65mm dia. that will produce around 30 Oz when you replace the brushed motor with a brushless motor. Then there is a 80 mm I have seen on ebay that rated up to around 3-4 thrust.
Ought to be an interesting project, good luck!

Selleri
Check ur inbox.
Iron Eagle i will definitely look at GP EDF units, off course i will use brushless motors for this model as that is the only way to get the power needed to get this model skimming...

That is indeed the one from great planes.
I just remember that the 3-4 lb one was a Kress jet engine, I have one but the instructions are not all that great. They are not all that great in overall material use or design.
Another I just bought is this one from ebay for $21 total.
