Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday to the deHavilland Beaver! 60 years ago today the Beaver took to the air for the very first time from deHavilland's factory in Downsview, Ontario on its maiden flight. Since then, this Canadian aviation icon has served all over the world in peacetime and in war. The photos below are of Beaver CF-FHB, the very first Beaver, from the archives of the Canadian Aviation Museum in Ottawa. The prototype was actually sold and had a 30 + year career before being acquired by the museum. It is now on display in the museum. The other photos are of my Beaver that I built in the colors of the museum's aircraft.

Are plans or a kit available for the Beaver, "(landing gear version)", in a scale that would use a G38 or maybe even a 50 size gas engine. I've been thinking about this plane off and on for about 6 months but have not pursued a build. No Arfs please as I like to build.

Unionville Hobbies offers the radial Beaver in 72", 96" and 144" spans. They offer the Turbo Beaver in the 96" size, and the deHavilland Otter in 72" and 96" sizes. The G38 would be a good match for the 144" Beaver. Great Hobbies carries the Unionville line in Canada, their website is www.greathobbies.com . These planes have excellent wood, instructions leave a bit to the imagination, but are acceptable, they build light and fly fantastic. My Beaver in the above photo (6' span) weighs only 6 3/4 lbs including floats and is overpowered with a Saito 56. The kits do not come with floats (although some have the option of floats). Unionville offers float kits, but they aren't very scale. My floats were scratch-built.
Cheers!

RE: Happy Birthday!
This plane was as important to Canada as the DC3 was to the US.

The unionville kits (that I have seen..) are not terribly scale, and the instructions (unless they have vastly improved) are fair to poor.....but, they are very popular kits for those that like bush planes.
There is also these ones:
