RE: scale floats for DC3
I want to do the same thing but my problem isn't the floats but the plane itself. I would like a Top Flite size DC-3 that doesnt weigh a ton and fly like a brick. Also, I have seen the Polk's hobby and I am not to fond of the un-scale-ness.
Thanks very much for the input. [in advance]

The picture(s) posted above are of the only Douglas-built prototype XC-47C. The floats were Edo model 78, and they each had a 300 gal. fuel tank in them, as well as two retractable and two non-retractable wheels. The prototype (SN# 42-5671) crashed in Jamaica Bay, New York on Nov. 13, 1943. The cause was listed as gross overload. There WERE, however, other C-47's modified in the flield with floats, so there wasn't just the one, and supposedly there is still an airworthy example somewhere.
I wonder if the one that crashed was taking off from Floyd Bennett Field? Lots of history there, both good and bad.

Here is a link to more pictures of N130Q. It was flying as of the year 2003

Another great photo.

Here is the info on the DC-3's current status/ownership. The last change to its registration was made in 2006 so that is a good indication that it is quite possibly still flying.

I believe Kenmore air are the licensees for EDO floats. EDO is still in business as an aerospace contractor, but not a float builder.

G'day qldviking, please have a look - I've send you an email. Cheers

EDO Model 78-29400 amphibious floats
Length: 42 ft
Beam: 5 ft 8 in
Depth: 5 ft
Weight: 2.234 pounds
Fresh water displacement: 29.400 pounds
Water-tight compartements: 14
Internal fuel tank: 325 gallons
Steering of the hydraulic water rudder system was achieved by use of the brake pedals. The left brake pedal turned the left water rudder out to the left; the right brake pedal turned the right water rudder out to the right; using both brake pedals caused both water rudders to steer out, becoming water brakes.

RE: scale floats for DC3
I've been in N130Q. It was owned by Max Folsom. He gave me my check ride for my float rating back in 91. They are Edo 78's I beleive. I'll be in town this weekend and will see if it's still there. The last time I checked, it was off the floats (2005).
