Default float spacing

Hey gang, I know the % suggestions for float size and spacing (float size is 75% of fuse length and 25% of wingspan for the spread). When you do the math for the senior I'm buidling it comes out to about 20". Most landing gear available do not reach this, and I don't see floats being spaced this much on this kit. Is this a common thing for a highwing airplane like the senior or a cub, etc? Any problems with it? Thanks

No problem, just attach them to where the wheels would be

I have a Senior on floats and it kept flipping on its back in cross winds so I widened the gap between floats and it helped. It does help to try to " spoil " the up wind wing when taxiing - try to remember to steer the plane into the wind with your ailerons, even though you won't be able to steer it with ailerons when taxiing. It does help a bit.

The wider the better. Can you get away with it narrower, yes...

Not necessarily true. Wider is only better to a point. I'm sure there's a mathmatical formula for it somewhere but I'm not about to go there

I've seen float planes with tip floats and a tail float. flew good and had excellent water handling. There are also ground effect water craft that have only tip and tail floats.

Laddies Aquabird is another....

I flew at an event a few weeks ago with Laddie . He flew his Spruce Goose and a new plane called the Shearwater. What a piece of work - he said he may not kit this model. Here is a pic of it and the right wing of the Spruce Goose.

That Shearwater is gorgeous! I hope he kits it.

Mike,
I agree, I saw the thread a couple of months ago where he showed off pictures, I really hope he does kit it too. I like the Northstar you have, but I tell you, I am fanatical about the shearwater.
