Lightweight floats for electrics
#2
RE: Lightweight floats for electrics
For electric models I make my own floats using the high density blue foam sold in builders' merchants for insulation (it sometimes come in pink) .
I cut it with a hot wire using plastic laminate templates and glue strips of ply on top for mounting.
I used bare foam on one model and that was OK, but after a season's flying they were dented and scratched from beaching.
On later models I glassed the bottom ahead of the step and painted them with artists acrylic paint.
The floats are flat sided 2" wide (because the foam comes in 2" thick sheets) and flared to throw the water out. They also have a little thin ply spray deflector strip on the inside edge.
