Default SEAMASTER

WOOOHOOO .........I got a Seamaster ARF. They are being sold on Ebay by cyradio.

I don't know how many more there are, but I've seen two go since I got mine, and there's another listed.

p.s. The shipping cost is a bit outrageous though.

Hi All,
I did the maiden flight with my Neptune a few weeks ago. It flew great. No problems at all. I paid $103 including shipping from Ebay. You can get the EXACT same plane online from Maxford USA for $189. I put an Evolution 46 on it. There was a Seamaster at the Float fly. They are very very similar but not exactly the same.

I just bought a Neptune ARF from the same guy, Cyradio. It really was a steal at $77, plus $30 for shipping. Still waiting for it to come in. I'm going to put a Super Tigre .51 on it, and probably going to fiberglass the bottom.

Can't WAIT!!! We're going on a fishing trip up to Ontario this summer, and the Neptune will definitely be coming along.

Only complaints about mine......

No front hatch like the real Seamaster had.

The nacelle for the engine pod both front and back were a bit too small for the wood engine mount it was supposed to connect to.

Angles for the elevator push rod is a little steeper than the original.

A big plus I thought......The bottom side from the step all the way forward to the nose is one solid piece of plywood.

I glazed the inside and made a front hatch for the battery.

Was a bit tail heavy, adding a 4 cell 4.8v JR pack in the nose balanced it perfect.

All and all not a bad deal, even though there needs to be some legwork done on the shipping charges, instead of just basing it off of the size of the box.

Based on what I'd guesstimate the box size/weight would be, He is doubling what UPS would charge,, Many ebay retailers add this hidden charge to cover the ebay/paypal fees

Around $100 delivered aint bad,, what exactly did you pay?

He is absolutely making money off of the shipping.

I live 20 miles away from him, and he refused to let me drive over and pick it up. That's a clear red flag that there's some shady shipping charges going on.

I also suspect some shill bidding is going on with his auctions (where they have alternate accounts to bid on their own stuff to drive up the price). Some of his auctions have one bidder that has bid on several of his auctions (once per auction), and they never actually win the auction. It's kind of hard to prove because eBay's privacy policies, but I have a pretty strong suspicion.

Given these things, you're still getting a good deal on his auctions... so I guess it's ok? Oh well....

Anyways, my new Neptune ARF shipped today... I hope UPS is able to get it 20 miles to my house by tomorrow!! Can't wait to get it assembled. Oh and thanks for the tips, Cowboy!

No problem. I did report him to Ebay to maybe get things in order with his shipping and only left neutral ratings because of it. Only paid 120 to the door but still, it's the principle of the thing.

I don't want to get into a blow up and don't mean to flame you guys, but if you didn't think the shipping & handling was fair, why did you buy from the guy?

I'd guess he is using the mark up to cover fees, not really "make money",
Keeping things in perspective when you think about a $60 anything on ebay
Example of a final value fee calculation for an auction listing:
You sell an item for $60.00
For the first $25.00 you pay 8.75%, which is $2.19
For the remaining $35.00 you pay 3.50%, which is $1.23
For this item the final value fee is $3.42 ($2.19 + $1.23)
Paypal? another 3% or so on that $60 +$1.80
Insertion fee if you start at $.01 = $.15
So on a $60 transaction he has to pay $5.37 just in fees.

On a $100 kit? closer to $8.00

He could be just "Drop Shipping" these,, that is when they ship directly from a warehouse somewhere, not the location where you send payment or the guy does business. This is very common now a days online also. And if that's the case he is paying a comission to the service that processes and sends out the order too.

If you suspect Shill Bidding, you should report that to ebay ASAP, I've reported that many times myself. It's harder for you and I to detect, but Ebay can figure it out if you report it.

When considering the shipping cost for this item, remember this package is 44lb by UPS dimensional rate.
I find this hard to believe,, what was the box dimension?

well... you're right, in the end we still got a decent deal on the thing, lol.

The dimensions of the box are 10'' x 15'' x 51''

Wow,
I guessed smaller before,
My UPS calulater gives that box a billable weight of 40 lbs., that box would cost me $54 from here to Cali

Doesn't look like he marking up shipping much or any after all.

Enjoy the plane

Since this thread seems to have diverted from Seamasters to USPS gripes I would like to get back on topic.
I just acquired a Seamaster 120 which is built up to the point of needing paint. It is covered and primed. After a long look it seems to me it would make a great twin using a pair of OS 90 FS's I have. Does anyone have any experience with something like this? I imagine it would be very much like an enlarged Sea Twin.
