Build Thread Dornier Do-24T
I am motoring aIDornier Do-24T, we ran the numbers for good flight charactureistics in normal flight and then kicked all components up a notch. The Question I have is I need a 5000mAh 12s +35C battery, There are three I looked at, the Hyperion @ $146.97, a Zippy @ $47.63 and Thumder Power @ $64.95. They are all 6S batteries so I would need 6 of them. The price range is somewhat staggering; $881.82 to 287.82. Although the specs say the are the same I am sheptical! I know from local talk the the Hyperion's are the Caddy of the batteries. Anyone out there know anything about the Zippy or Thunder Power?
I will be posting some dry assembly photos later today on the build!!!

There is a Batteries forum in the electric flight site"Wattflyer.com". You might access better information by posting this question there, since it's really more about batteries than about the Dornier.

RE: Build Thread Dornier Do-24T
Thank you for your input, it helps!
Well, here is the first step! these photos are of the dry fit of the center wing. It was very successful. It was the thrird fitting as there were some minor flaws in some of the connector hole alignment, and I went to a CF/Phonelic system so had to change any parts involved it this. The one photo shows the nacell shells. Haven't cut them to fit yet as I want to get the stringer inplace to get a better trim line establishd. Tjhe next step is to laminate all the double and triple nacelle ribs. Then it is timr to get out the gallon jug of CA!!! LOL!!

The wing tip section dry fit very well, just a couple of notches that needed attention. I'll have too DL photos later as I keep getting error messages! I have put them up on my web site!

OK, I figured out how to make it happen. The system dose not seem to like two large files even though they are well below the 10MB level. So add them one at a time!

RE: Build Thread Dornier Do-24T
I need to locate the proper power box for her.. Becace it is so large most of the servo leads that go to real servos rather the some other device like ESCs , landing lights and such are 48" plus long. Plus the fact that most of my servo are big boys I need to have seperate battery for them. I found a couple of mega option, mega priced ones limr Duralite, but sense I just need the isolation and not all the mega option stuff like engine kill it seems over kill to pay several hundred dollars for something that you will not use three quarters of! Thanks!

OH, sorry I though you were attempting to answer the Expander problem! We believe the dry weight will be about±30 - 35 pounds. You will note that the ribs are lightened to the max, so is evry other part that goes into her!

I had a couple of single malts to boost my couarge and got out the Titebond, CA and epoxy! Every thing you see in the photos was inplace without sticky stuff and the all joints top and bottom were glued with the allropriate stuff. Got to wait now for the hardware to assemble the aileron inplace so it fits and function correctly! Then I can cut it loose from the jig and finish the spars by adding the basswood and CF caps Now I am doing the same to the center section of the wing, will post it later

Have gotten some progress accomplished! The center section is strustually completed. My water jet guy said the hardware will be in my hands by this time next week! So then I can fabricate the flap and ailerons!

RE: Build Thread Dornier Do-24T
Well, I finally got all the electronics, so laid it in the fuselage to do a initial fit check and see what I needed to provide for the components. Now I am in the process of strengthening the fuselage keel and extending it up to the box airframe to carry the weight. Had to put a none scale hatch behind the cabin forward and below the cowelings to accomidate the six 5000mAh batteries, which make three 12S battery packs. Can't get the ESC as close as I would like but will keep all leads to aminimum between the batteries and the ESC.
