Default PURPLE MALLARD

Necessity is the mother oe invention Ben Franklin once said. I needed a float plane and was low on funds. In my shop I had a set of scratch built floats I made a year ago and old wing ,engine, etc etc .Two and a half weeks later ...... I give you the Purple Mallard.

If you guys have a better name let me know. Oh yeah a couple of builders notes ,the body just above the float is removable its held on with four 4/40 bolts in case I want to pair the floats up again . You can see two of the bolts in the nostril holes in the duck bill . Happy flying NJ

Today was a beautiful day for any maiden flight ,sunshine blue sky and no wind . I assembled her and filled up the tank that had pressure tested during construction , started her up and noticed the nacell leaking. Turned out to be a bad stopper ,30min later starter her up again and went for a taxi. Three passes later I decided it's time to fly . The 46 ax with a 10 / 7 at full throttle was enough to get her off the water,I let the wing do it'sstuff with very little elevator and with the help of a boat wake, I was in the air. She flew WONDERFUL the whole flight no bad habits,I didn't realize untill after the flight was over that I didn't add any trim at all ,no B.S. Perhaps she was telling me i'll give you one good one today ,because the screw that holds the carb on the intake vibrated out on the maiden found a replacment in my box and restarted her , then the one that holds inner guts of the carb vibrated out and I couldn't find it. Flying over so sad.........NJ

P.S. sorry no pictures

You DO realize everyone will bug you for the plans now! - LOL

Seriously, it's awesome what you can do with stuff that's kicking around if you want to fly bad enough...

And keep the name - perfect!

Now, about those plans.....

Thanks Couchy , I wish I could tell you that I have plans for her .It's all in my head, perhaps this late this Fall I could sharpen the lead and put my drafting table to work. Do you really think I could sell more than one set ? any ways I glad you like it . NJ
