CMP .40-.60 fiberglass arf sport floats
Hope everyone is on Santa's "good list" and are expecting the latest and greatest airplane.
I recently purchased a Super Senior 60 and matching floats from NitroPlanes. I know, big mistake. Someone at my field bought one and it flies good but the kit is crap. Anyway, the floats came with a bunch of parts and no instructions. I don't have a lot of experience with building floats so i was wondering if anyone knew where I could get a copy of the instructions. I am sure they suck but I at least need a description of the parts. The floats can be seen at http://www.nitroplanes.com/fiberglas...ize-float.html thanks in advance, dan |

RE: CMP .40-.60 fiberglass arf sport floats
So Dan,,
How's the quality of those floats? Seam durable? |
RE: CMP .40-.60 fiberglass arf sport floats
"Are they durable?"
With what they weigh, they must be solid fiberglass...... |
RE: CMP .40-.60 fiberglass arf sport floats
Thanks Charles. I tried that and they said they would send me instructions. I don't believe them either. They seem very durable. I will probably trash all the hardware, buy my own water rudder, and give them a shot. they are 100% fiberglass. Jim, I have a set of your floats and love them. Just didn't want to go the whole fiberglass route this time. Wanted something quick and easy. Hopefully they will be worth it ;-)
let me know if you get the instructions in e-mail.. Thanks, dan |

RE: CMP .40-.60 fiberglass arf sport floats
I've been called worse,,,,
The times played with nitroplanes planes,, I pretty much tossed the lame instruction sheet(s), you're better off figuring it out on your own.. I'll link the scan if they ever send it, sad that so many Internet businesses have virtually no reliable customer service,, good luck |
RE: CMP .40-.60 fiberglass arf sport floats
If you have a set of my floats, I am very pleased and amazed, as I have not sold a set of floats in YEARS.
(Making the cores is pretty easy. It took longer to fabricate a cardboard shipping container than to cut the floats. ) Still, my experience is that foam-core floats are lighter and more durable than any other construction. What struck me in reading their ad copy was the weight. The look very nice, but 3 pounds is half the weight (or more) of the whole AIRPLANE. It'll fly, just at a minimum of 20% faster and with nearly twice the power required for the same flight condition as without the weight. ( lift and drag increase with the square of airspeed, power requirement increases as the CUBE of airspeed. |
RE: CMP .40-.60 fiberglass arf sport floats
A 9 lbs plane with 1250 sq. in of wing.. That about 16 oz wing loading, with a flat bottom airfoil???? I think it will fly just fine

RE: CMP .40-.60 fiberglass arf sport floats
I have an OS 71 4 stroke on the plane. I am not worried about the weight ;-)
