RE: Lanier RC 87" Yak 54 or Edge 540

A zen62 pulls OK with a 24x8 or 22x10. I am currently making an electronic ignition for mine. Will drop a few oz, but I can drop the spring starter and hand start. Plus - I am hoping to get a...

RE: Charging LITHIUMION ON THE ASTRO 109???

On charging - My Graupner Duo 30 says that Li-Ion uses a cutoff of 3.6V/cell, while Li-Poly is 3.7v/cell. I am using the Li-Ion mode for charging the A123 batteries and it seems to work well. I am...

RE: AWESOME- Found Source for NEW a123 Lipo Nano Chemistry Batteries

BTW: I used 30" of 14 guage speaker wire for connect the a123's to the lead acid batteries. I suspect that the resistance prevented a HUGE initial current. The 14 Gauge wire did get hot where the...

RE: AWESOME- Found Source for NEW a123 Lipo Nano Chemistry Batteries

I tried it out - and this works pretty good!

I have a Sullivan UltraTork Starter (The big 24v job). It works well with 4S, but much better on 6S. The pack us pretty ugly right now, as it is...

RE: AWESOME- Found Source for NEW a123 Lipo Nano Chemistry Batteries

FINALLY - I got my pack! The condition is identical to the first unit pictured here. I am getting identical results - about 2300 mah initially and moving up after a few cycles. I am using a...

RE: AWESOME- Found Source for NEW a123 Lipo Nano Chemistry Batteries

Due to the ability to pulse discharge, I can see their use in applications where lipo's won't work and Nicad are still heavily used. F5B comes to mind. During launch, these motors can draw 200...

RE: AWESOME- Found Source for NEW a123 Lipo Nano Chemistry Batteries

Bummer - my cells are not here yet!

On the web site for A123, they show a max charge of about 4v and a max discharge of 2v per cell (listed in the temperature performance chart and the...

RE: AWESOME- Found Source for NEW a123 Lipo Nano Chemistry Batteries

Well - I should have them in a couple of days. I'm planning to gut and test them individually to see what a cell will do. I am hopeful that the voltages will be close enough to use either lion or...

RE: AWESOME- Found Source for NEW a123 Lipo Nano Chemistry Batteries

The manufacturer is VERY tight on quality control and licensing. It will be a while before they are available in separate packaging. Web site says that power can be 100C peak and LiIon batteries...

AWESOME- Found Source for NEW a123 Lipo Nano Chemistry Batteries

In case you haven't seen it.... a123 is a new lipo type. Higher capacity and FAST 5 minute recharge thanks to nano technology. Batteries are hard to get, but Dewalt has them in the new 36V tools. I...

RE: The new Lanier Edge 87"

I got a load of Hitec 5925's in :) Merry Christmas to me! The Garage is pretty cold to work in right now, but I should be able to finish now..... Can't wait!

RE: The new Lanier Edge 87"

It shouldn't take too long to complete, but - I don't have any servos anywhere near big enough. My previous plane was a Carl Goldberg 300 profile (.46)..... fantastic flyer and light, but strong.

RE: The new Lanier Edge 87"

By the way - I'm going to try a 23x8 and 24x8 prop on the G62. This should limit top end speed, but I think they will produce something around 24-27lbs of thrust. A 24x6 would be worth trying - if...

RE: The new Lanier Edge 87"

Bonedoc - I'm the one that got your first plane. Great looking machine, but I ran into a Servo cost vs Wife acceptability factor problem. I have a G62 to go into the Lanier Edge 300. Built with 4...

RE: The new Lanier Edge 87"

In looking at the bme 61cc twin - The weight is consistent (or less) than with a G62. As for size, it would be a great fit, but you would need to cut cylinder on both sides. I think that it would...

RE: The new Lanier Edge 87"

On the Extra 300 - The Cowl would need to be cut on both sides for the cylinders, but there is sufficient room vertically for the carb to fit inside. You can get away with about 5 1/2" from the...

RE: The new Lanier Edge 87"

OK - I figured out the mfg's wing area measurement.

Using a fabric tape, I measured the circumference on the wing at the tip and root. On the Extra, that gives 23 3/8 at the tip, 42 3/8 at the...

RE: The new Lanier Edge 87"

Here is the final group of pics. The control surfaces are HUGE and double beveled edges should give monstrous throws. I think that I need some killer servos here. Manual says 100 oz or better -...

RE: The new Lanier Edge 87"

Finally found my camera and got some pics. This Extra is pretty similar to the Edge, but there are minor differences in the canopy lines (of course). I don't know why my weights came out so much...

RE: The new Lanier Edge 87"

The aileron size was included in the wing measurements. It appears slightly on the large side as the aileron is nearly half the wing chord at the tip. If I use a flexible tape measure to wrap...
