RE: Engine for rc pulling tractor

Hello Pe,

I must say that the 116 is very tempting. The power is good, the looks are good (I like the carburettor on the back of the engine, instead of it towering above the crankase), if what...

RE: Question about 2-cilinder inline

It's a Robin NBT-415.

Here's a short movie I made this afternoon of the engine running: http://home.hetnet.nl/~cyril-wichers/images/Robin5.wmv

RE: Question about 2-cilinder inline

Ok, I tried again today. I finally got the engine to run lean. Had to turn the lowspeed needle in to 3/4 turn and the highspeed to 1 turn to accomplish this.
Got a maximum Rpm of 7800 with the...

RE: Question about 2-cilinder inline

Thanks for the kind words! This is my first conversion, so I had no idea what to expect.

@w8ye; you're right, lots of reading and calculating was done before the first chips were made ;)

Question about 2-cilinder inline

I'm in the process of converting a 2-cilinder 2.5 Cu/In Subaru-Robin weedeater engine from gas to nitro.
What I've done so far is remove the top of the heads an replace them with head buttons (the...

RE: 3 engine T Maxx

Hey, nice to see that there are still some people with innovative minds who don't mind getting their hands dirty!
I'm a member of a Dutch group of pullers and we also build our own multi-engine...

RE: Engine gets really hot

I removed the new head after running the engine. According to my calculations, the compression ratio is now about 1:12

There is one thing I still find strange though;
As I understand it, most...

RE: Engine gets really hot

I did some testing last Saturday and the results up 'till now look very promising.

There was just one problem as in that I couldn't test it during a pull. In my haste to get everything ready on...

Well, I finished the new head today. Still a couple of things to do to the tractor, but I think I'll be ready for testing on Saturday!

RE: Engine gets really hot

Well I must say this is turning into a very interesting discussion!

@gcb;
I'm not abusing my engines to that extent. Experience learns that most engines we use hold up for at least three...

RE: Engine gets really hot

I did a little search on squish band angles and found an interesting comment on a site dealing with rc boat-racing:

@FrancisPerson;
Thanks for the heads up! I'm definitely going to continue this experiment. If there's something I can't stand it's knowing that something should work, but I can't figure out why it...

RE: Engine gets really hot

With all due respect, but I think those last comments are quite inappropriate;

1- You say I copied "your" head. Unfortunately I can't seem to find a conversion head for a MAC-10 KP2Y-C engine...

That's quite possible, because I'm from Holland and my technical English isn't perfect.

The head is made exactly as in the drawing, except for the cooling fins. They are 8mm deep.
The space...

RE: Engine gets really hot

I'm sorry, but I'm not quite sure what you mean by "deck hight"

The total stroke of the contra-piston is 3,5mm, resulting in a combustion chamber volume varying from 0 to 0.62cc

Effective stroke (from closing of exhaust port): 13mm
Total capacity (excluding combustion chamber and squishband volume): 5.88cc

RE: Engine gets really hot

As I stated in my earlier message, none of our models use forced cooling, simply because we run them for such short periods that they don't even get a chance to overheat.
The average pull takes 3...

Thanks for all the input so far!

Just to answer a couple of questions:
- We don't run cooling fans on any of our our tractors. (we use both 2-stroke and 4-stroke engines, either burning...

Ok, here are the engine settings when I last had it running:

- I removed the head and measured the position of the contra-piston. I calculated the compression to be 1:20,44 (assuming that...
