RE: Scratch Built Jet

Dave, that is a awesome looking project. Look forward to maybe catching some pics of it here when it is flying.

Carlos, very nice. I previously explained the motivation for choosing this type...

RE: Scratch Built Jet

Hal, making plugs/molds, working with composites, etc. isn't hard, but it does take a special skill set you must learn. I started making plug/molds about 5 years ago, so really not all that long...

RE: Scratch Built Jet

While not my first plug/mold/composite project, you are correct that this is my first turbine design project. It also was the most technically challenging project to date. It is amazing how...

RE: Scratch Built Jet

Heh... I don't mind rain. Andy’s comment is relevant and I understand the criticism.

As to “different”, I think all planes look pretty much the same because aerodynamics dictates the...

RE: Scratch Built Jet

Thanks for all the kind comments.

rcguy, kitting has been considered, but there are several challanges to producing kits I haven't fully addressed.

Scratch Built Jet

Posting this for inspiration to anyone that is thinking about or in the process of scratch building a jet. Typical twin boom design, local group project, started in October 2009. Prototype flew in...

RE: Ducts & bypass sizing?

Duct is for a sport jet a group of us locally designed. Distance from the inlet to the front of the turbine housing will be about 14" as shown by the tape on the plug. Probably only need 6" of pipe...

Ducts & bypass sizing?

What are the rules of thumb when it comes to sizing inlet area, bypass, exhaust pipes for turbines? In my application, looking at sizing for P80-P120 sized turbines. Thanks in advance. -John

RE: How to recognize older AMT?

Unfortunately, I personally don’t have the ground support equipment necessary to read as suggested. I found the SN. The can diameter is 4”, one piece (less intake ring), exhaust is 1.75”.

How to recognize older AMT?

Is there an easy way to determine the model number of a older AMT turbine? I have one I believe to be circa 2002, ESU say's AMT on it, airstart, uses large round plug for GSU/starting, but I can...

RE: futaba fasst systems

Futaba FASST radio user, 12Z, before that, 9ZAP. I have FASST installed in everything from park flyers to turbines. Easily a thousand flights. Not a single issue. The system is rock solid.

RE: YS 120 wont run

If the regulator is installed backwards they can do that. Easy mistake to make as it fits fine rotated 180 degrees out. Might be your problem. There should be an index boss on the regulator...

RE: first time vacuum bagging: leading edge not perfectly straight!

If you're going thru the effort to bag wings, you probably won't ever be happy with any fix on your existing wings, depending upon how warped they are. You might be able to press it out, but...

RE: plug finish?

I use PPG Deltron urethane high build primer. Primer alone works great. Dark grey and wet sands/buffs out to a mirror finish. Unless your plug is perfect, I'd be afraid that a low build epoxy...

RE: Whats the difference between surface and air servos?

Some of the servo's I've seen marketed for surface application have an extra o-ring seal by the output shaft compared to thier aircraft equal. I'd assume this would be to help prevent dust/water etc...

RE: Charging and cycling with regulator

Your reason is flawed. If you have a cell go bad, you're pack will drop to 4.8V at best. A regulator can't increase the voltage. Think regulator on a air tank. If the main tank has 50psi, but you...

RE: Range Problems Futaba

I wasn't aware they were selling TX crystals for 72MHz, but if they are, they shouldn't be doing that as it is irresponsible because they know peeps will change TX frequency, jack up their TX, and...

RE: P70 - Battery Warning???

RX Battery failsafe - good point, now that you mention it, I can't rule that out either, and i bet that was it. I think I have a low RX battery fail safe enabled enabled on the radio, I'll double...

RE: P70 - Battery Warning???

Update - I cannot reproduce the issue with a freshly charged ECU pack, so I think all's good. However, I'd still like confirmation on if this is a battery failsafe feature, why it is functional when...

RE: fuel pump

If it makes noise, but doesn't pump fuel, the coupler between the motor and pump might be spinning on the shaft. Open the pump to verify. I had one die this way in about 5 minutes. I soldered a...

RE: 2.4 or 14 MHZ??????

Heh, this is a bit funny. The radio in question, as pointed out by another poster, is the Futaba model 14MZ. This is not to be confused with 14 megahertz, which would be abbreviated 14MHz. And to...
