It tried removing the output gear using the method you described but have not been able to get it to budge. Even tried light tapping but doesn't seem to want to move. Don't want to chance messing up...

Thanks, the instructions give the balance point at 6 1/2 " behind the LE at the fuselage. My model without the elevator servo installed balances more than 7 1/2" behind the LE. I have not checked...

You were correct, it was the in the high speed needle assembly, most likey the seat. I replaced the entire assembly, needle, seat and O-rings. The problem has gone away. Thanks again for your help.
