RE: Top Flite Staggerwing

I have the Saito 180 in mine. Vibration is not a problem at all. It pulls the plane nicely, even with the retracts down. Look back several postings and you can see my pictures. I just needed...

RE: Top Flite Staggerwing

Pete S - I thought the same thing when I read about drilling the hole in the strut. Then I realized, with the bolt in there, it would be solid, again. The hole doesn't exist with the bolt in it. ...

RE: Top Flite Staggerwing

Goldenhawk,

I made some lettering for the top wing out of black and gold Monocote. It is the N 2100 number like on the tail.

You can kinda see it on the top of the wing in the attached...

RE: Top Flite Staggerwing

Well I finally got mine to the Field, today. It has been a bad Spring for flying in Chicago this year. I had many things to check out and fix, so I didn't get it in the air. ( the 20-25 mph winds...

RE: Top Flite Staggerwing

Summerwind,

The spinner has a diameter of 2 1/2". Just like the picture, it has a rounded nose - not pointed.

RE: Top Flite Staggerwing

Pete,

I put the Saito 180 in mine. Look back at previous postings. Take a look at the pictures.

I mounted it at the 90 degree configuration. I just barely needed two openings for the...

RE: Top Flite Staggerwing

TELEJOJO,

I haven't flown mine yet, due to winter weather, so I cannot speak from first hand experience. However, since the plane will weigh about 20 lbs. and has the drag of two wings, I think...

RE: Top Flite Staggerwing

AFFAS,

I put in the Saito 180. See my posts above. I had to add about 20 oz (568 grams) on the firewall to get the CG right.

Like you, it is winter here, so I will not fly it until...

RE: Started a top flite staggerwing

Dear LGM,

There are two other threads here on this plane. They go back a couple of months and have a lot of info and pictures.

You can see the pictures of mine with the Saito 180 there. ...

RE: Top Flite Staggerwing

I think that you can just rotate the cover 180 degrees. This may mean that the oval shaped opening is not the same distance from the trailing edge as the other side. However, changing the length of...

RE: Top Flite Staggerwing

Whoa! Take it easy!

Did you guys look back at the postings of the flights with the OS 160 twin? Dick Petit seems to think that it flew quite nicely.

RE: Top Flite Staggerwing

Dear Prann,

I seems that you put a lot of weight up front. Did you set the CG 5 1/2 " from where the wing fairing meets the fuse, or where the wing and the fairing become a straight line.

RE: Top Flite Staggerwing

Randy,

Yes, the manual is confusing on the CG point. However, if yoiu look at earlier postings, you will see that others have used the point where the fairing and the wing make a straight line....

RE: Top Flite Staggerwing

OK here is mine. 18 lb. 12 oz before nose weight for the CG balancing.

The Saito 180 almost fit undwer the cowl. I put Golden Knight rocker covers on it, so they would match the gold trim.

I put the Saito 180 in my Staggerwing. Almost done.

I mounted the engine at 90 degrees, rather than inverted. This meant that I had to make a two small openings in the cowl for the rocker...

It looks like the Fuji is a nice fit. I, especially, like how you finished off the three exhausts.

RE: Top Flite Staggerwing

Brett,

I was considering the Evolution 1.6 gasser, too. I would have bought one for my Staggerwing, if I didn't have the Saito 180 available.

Keep us posted on your results. I am curious...
